Does shaft stiffness/whippiness dramatically affects deflection?

Who in the hell are you that they have to explain anything to? If you want to know about it, you should be calling them directly and see is they're willing to give you any tidbits here and there and be satisfied with it. If they give it... fine. If not...that's your tough luck. You can keep hypothesizing and theorizing until the cows come home.
I did not say that they had to explain their ideas!

Actually, Robert Meucci has given this opinion:
"To reduce deflection to its absolute minimum by carrying the shock wave from the tip down the shaft through the flexible joint and out the butt of the cue, thus allowing the chalk particles to stay in contact with the cue ball surface for a longer duration of time."

Though he may have more to say about how butts can affect deflection.

That said, I should not lump these guys in together as if members of a particular class. I also think the sentence you are refering to is needlessly arrogant. I regret I wrote it in that particular way, so my apologies to Rob and Blud...and maybe even Drivermaker (despite the fact you've been over my back like a monkey throughout these threads). :D

You peters! I wasted my lunch time reading this and I still don't know if I have to buy a Predator.

Send us a picture of yourself so we can see if your nose is longer than Pinnochio's. I think you can outdo him in the fibbing department. Let me quote you again: "I've actually, for the first time given guys like Blud and Meucci a possible mechanism for them to explain how the butt may affect deflection".

No...you never said that they "HAD" to explain their ideas, nor did I accuse you of saying "HAD". What you did say, in essence, is,... YOU, in your infinite wisdom and seeker of the truth, are now giving them their great opportunity to make everything right with the world order, due to your generousity in being able to provide their response on an open forum.

You then proceeded to say, "I wanted to hear their own reasons, because, to my knowledge they have never been able to suggest a credible mechanism to describe what they believe".

You're right Colin...that was downright arrogant the way you put it. But, maybe they just don't WANT to give their reasons. Again, call them on the phone and see what you can get. Maybe they'd rather keep it private than public.

I don't see it as being a monkey on your back...I kind of look at it like a cheetah going after some weak prey and he doen't want to over exert himself.

If it gives you any consolation, I actually do think you're on the right track regarding certain areas of the Shephard writings that are currently etched in stone and accepted by Jewett and all the rest of the scientists. I'd like to see you publish your ideas and debunk certain things.

Gee...I'm just glad I didn't come down too hard on you and scare you away.
Otherwise, you wouldn't have had this mechanism to explain your reasons and beliefs in all of these different areas. Keep up the good work. :p

Drivermaker,
I'm not so soft skinned that I'll be scared away :D

You're not such an easy guy to work out. And I tend to think you've mistaken me as being more arrogant than I really am. But yes, arrogance rears its ugly head in me from time to time. Looking around though, I'm not alone.

But thanks for the encouragement. I do look forward to bouncing ideas back and forth with you in the future. :)
