Does the break cue matter?

It is actually quite the opposite, a thicker shaft will in fact deflect more. That is the beauty of the Predator BK2. It's also the reason that jump cue shafts are typicaly so thick.

Also, on the subject of the phenolic vs. leather tip, and the amount of time that the tip is in contact with the cue ball. If you have ever seen any of the high speed photographs of the leather tip impacting with the cue ball, and you see how much that leather tip is compressed, I think you would agree that there is a loss of energery there. However, with a phenolic tip you also will be lacking the control that you will have with a leather tip.

I personly have been breaking the best with my Predator 314 with a sniper tip lately. If I were to buy a break cue it would be a Predator...

Particularly at high level 9 ball...the break is indeed the most important shot of the game. There are many fine j/b cues from which to choose. :)

Note to XXLBRO: please don't let anyone see a man of your size talking to his cue...in public at least. :D
