Because NOBODY is drawn to the game because of safety play.
Maybe I am being a bit selfish but when I am playing my intention is to win
Because NOBODY is drawn to the game because of safety play.
Its funny. If I am playing in league/tourny against somebody who I know dislikes safety play I will actually play more to try and take them out of the game. I have seen some players implode this way and I always get a chuckle out of it.

Jesus, you're killing the game and laughing about it.![]()
Then why don't you just shoot your opponent and be done with it?
Fellas: pool is DYING. When is this going to sink in?

I am not killing anything. I am exposing the weakness of a opponent which is what you should do in any game. I do not play in the US Open tournament. My matches are not televised. What does my safety play have to do with the health of the game? It sounds like your beef is with the rules. If you don't like them perhaps you should work on getting them changed instead of *****ing at people who like to play the game the way it is currently being defined.
I might be wrong but shooting your opponent is probably considered poor sportsmanship![]()
Maybe some peoples way of playing the game annoys you and that's fine. Don't play them. But why do you feel this need to control how everyone is doing something.
No matter what level you play, do you not think you've an obligation to the game itself?
How can one change the rules without first changing the mindset of players?

But it'd ensure you win - which is your numero uno objective, isn't it?
..and missing your opponent would be called poor marksmanship..

After reading through all of these replies in this thread I am left with this feeling;
Defensive players enjoy Chess
Offensive players enjoy Checkers
Nothing wrong with either one, the world takes all kinds.
I guess I'm a Chess player.

This wasn't aimed at me but I would like to offer my answers to this.
1. Do I feel obligated to the game itself? No, I feel no obligation whatsoever to dumb down the way I play the game.
2. How can one change the rules without first changing the mindset of players? EASY, just do it. There is no need to change the players mindset in order to change the rules. You will never get everyone to agree on everything.
