ok i have been playing alot of 8ball lately, and we have a APA 8ball tournament at the poolhall i goto, and i have found that my game has taken that major leap Sarah and Melissa was talking about.

I can basically run the rack on 8ball everytime i get to the table, although it seems that i always seem to mess it up, along the way either by using too much english or not enough.

But i find playing 8ball, has totally improved my 9ball game, And yes i did finally get outa my FUNK lol. But i do find that 8ball has improved my ability to play safe in 9ball, and that playing 9ball has improved my chances of running out on 8ball.

I know alot of the men who play 9ball, also play Sudden death 7ball too, which i would think really help your game too, cuz if you miss its a foul.

But any thoughts would be nice too

Dave

Different games are bound to improve your game: betcha v250 that if you started playing straights/banks/one hole exclusively for a month or so you would find a similar improvement in your 9 ball.

I'll bet another v250 that Sarah and her fellow pros don't JUST practice 9 ball either.

Doncha just love this game sometime? :)

I agree with Raistlin, practice all games. One pocket will help you play safe better in 9 ball.Straight pool will help you play combos, billiards, and caroms. As you see all these games will help you play 9 ball better.Good luck :D

Hi Dave,

First...I am glad to hear you are playing great. It was just a matter of time.

Second...Ruben and Raistlin are right. The more games you learn the more knowledge you will gain. Alot of pros play every game and are very good at every game. I myself got into the rut of only playing 9ball for a long time. In the past few years I have opened my mind to playing all games. Straight pool is a great game. You get to learn about strategy and shot making. It would probably help your decision making for 8ball. One Pocket is a game that I have had the most trouble learning. It is pools equivalant to chess. Even playing games like Snooker and Billiards will help your 9ball game.

As a fun way to try new games you can just pick up a BCA Rule book. There are many different games you can try.

I guess the best thing to do is to try and become an all around player. I think you will see the benefit in every game.

Good luck,

Sarah

try this dave...

you say you run the table in 8 ball, so try putting a few balls out on the table (the kind of shots you normaly mess up on) and work with those shots with all different kinds of english and if you do that you will start getting the hang of it, when you do that one day you will wake up and start shooting and you will notice your a step higher. Anyways good luck!!
