Hey crew,

Just wanted to update everyone after I went to the website recently. Seems like the price of that simple, but pretty base model is going up at the end of the month.

http://www.dominiakcues.com/gpage1.html

I am soooo close to pulling the trigger on one of these, as I have heard nothing but good feedback. Might be a fun cue to keep as backup for those bar tournaments.

Anyways here is the info for the site. Hope they don't mind!

GOOD NEWS & BAD NEWS

April 24, 2007

GOOD NEWS IS - The price for the Dominator shaft option on a WD1020 will be lowered to $69.00. This combo makes for a beautiful cue with a high performance radial laminated shaft. The tip, ferral and shaft fitted to the WD1020 butt has the performance, all the quality, value and good looks you need at a price that will make it a very popular choice.

BAD NEWS - Beginning May 1, 2007 the price for the basic WD1020 will be $119.00

GOOD NEWS - Price for the extra shaft on a WD1020 is still only $40.00

MORE GOOD NEWS - We are taking orders for the new model in our line, the "Dirty Curly". This cue was introduced at the Super Billiards Expo and received a lot of attention. The prototype was sold and we took orders for two more. It starts as a WD1010 with a full curly butt and we add 56 diamond inlays, placed in an exponential pattern the down the length and it is available with ebony inlays with black rings or lacewood inlays with mahogany rings. $189.00!! (pictures to come)

AND - The WD1020 will soon be available with all wood dashed rings in the "ABCDE" positions.

It still seems like a heck of a deal!!! How much extra do you think the ring work will cost?

I'm not a fan. My girlfriend just received her 99 dollar basic cue and we both didn't like the hit. The hit was very mushy, likely due to the new triangle tip, the balance was very rear-weighted, and the linen wrap was not smooth enough.

Great value for 99 bucks, but I'm not crazy for it.

Is this cue still in C-U? I'd love to try it out, if you have a minute. I've been tempted by the price, too. Will you be playing tomorrow (Thursday)? Where?

For $99 how pretty is that!

Yes the cue will stay here for at least awhile. We have decided to wait till the tip flattens and perhaps adjust the weight ourselves. I have negotiated with my gf for her to use the dominiak instead of my gilbert from now on. I might be at the union tomorrow from 3-5, but no promises. I know I will be there on friday for sure some time before 5.

Beautiful

Beautiful!! The maple he uses is just incredible. The Sweet Sixteen series is a major bang for the buck as well. I've owned several of his cues over the years and they are really something. Don't know how he does it. It's not like he is putting out tons of production cues. I'm just glad he is back doing it. And yes I've put my money where my mouth is. I have one that I designed on order that should be finished this week.

Yours has beautiful curly maple. Mine is in town as of 5AM this morning on UPS truck. Should be delivered sometime today. 2 shafts, Mahogany accents, and black/brn irish. Can't wait to get home.

Wish I could claim to be the owner. Of course, even if it was mine I don't know if I would admit it with that pink carpet backround! :D

Might have the same one built with black collars and butt cap.

only complaint I had of my $99 dominiak was the taper of the shaft. I'm use to a long taper and the taper on mine was really short. Not a problem, I had a local cue maker lengthen the taper for me and added a new moori medium cue is awsome. Oh by the the wrap on mine is some minor defects but its all good I love it anyway the hit makes the cue

Hey!::o That's light rose, thank you very much:D. Actually, I took the photo on the patio and that's a towel I pilfered from the bathroom (I sure hope my sweetie doesn't see this post:eek: ).

That cue disappeared, briefly, one night at a local establishment. The butt was found worse for damage in the parking lot. The case and shafts would turn up (unharmed) at a much later date. In the mean time, I refinished the butt and fitted a spare shaft to it. The polyurethane I used yellows some and seems to mute the curly in this photo, but Is quite pleasant first hand. That's my second Dom in the photos as well.

Actually mine will have a maple handle. The forearm and butt sleeve are tulipwood. It will have a white joint with a white butt cap. Tulipwood dash or stitch rings at ABCDE. 2 shafts. Congrats on yours. Post some pics if you get a chance.

I ordered one of the WD1020's from William and he has been nothing short of fantastic to deal with. Had a small problem with the cue I received from him and he offered to build me an entirely new one at no charge. He told me to hang on to the old cue until the new one is ready and he will cover the return shipping. I also mentioned the thick taper of the shaft and he said that upon request, he will offer a slimmer taper on his shafts at no charge. I think all this says a lot about his character; he goes out of his way to make the customer happy...and over a $100 cue at that.

Test Drive

I will post some pics this weekend. I want to test drive it and then give a critique for what that is worth. It sounds like William is openning up to many more cue options. That's a good thing.:D

Yeah he is. He sent me an email this morning saying that the ringwork I asked for looks so good that he wants to take photos and offer my design as a new cue in his line. Hope it works out for him.

Regarding William's taper on his WD1020 cues... formerly the $99 cue... now the $119 cue... William described to me that he never envisioned that his WD1020s would be purchased by more experienced players like most of us here that are used to playing with a pro taper. He felt that the buyers of his WD1020s would be on an entry level... likely stepping up from a house cue to their first personal cue.

I currently own a 60" wrapless WD1020 and bought it with an extra shaft for $40 more... and it's my everyday shooter at this time.

And... I have 7 more on order... 4 of which are already spoken for. ;)

The cues on the website for $340 are definately pretty good looking as well..they look like a steal to me as well!

Dominiak Cues

I received my Dominiak cue two weeks ago. I have been playing with it everyday since I received it. For what it is worth my evaluation follows:

The overall looks of this cue is beautiful. The curly maple is the curliest!! The mahogany accents are very classy to say the least. The blk/brn specs has a good feel, a little slippery (but I’m used to leather or Meucci filled), the wrap does have a small flaw but you probably wouldn’t notice it unless you are as anal as I am.
The playability in one word is responsive. The tip is just fine, not too hard or soft (I’m used to elkmaster). The shafts are 13 and 12.6. The 12.6 taper, the one I play with is just to my liking. It is 19.5 oz and the balance point is just a little lower on the butt than my Josswest and little higher than my Meucci. My Josswest and Joss both have a stiffer hit and my Meucci has a softer hit. This Dominiak is right in the middle, IMO. At first I felt the cue was too light for me (other cues are 20 ozs) but after playing with it for a couple of weeks I really like the feel very much. Not to be repetitive but the responsiveness from the tip to the shaft to the grip and into my fingers is not like any other cue that I have. It is right in between anything I have played with and I feel it is zeroing in on what highlights my stroke. Overall I have to say I would not hesitate to purchase another one of his cues. Thanks William and Lisa Dominiak for this wonderful cue stick. I know I will get many years of enjoyment and what a great value you have offered pool players.

Thanks again,

P.S. Here are some pics.

My previous cue had a pro taper on it and the Dominiak did feel a little thick when I first started playing with it. However I adjusted almost immediately and now really like the taper on the shaft. Of course I am not what I would consider experienced either! :)
