I was talking to my sister on the phone yesterday, and she's just getting interested in pool (since my last visit) She told me about a Donald duck cartoon that demonstrated the diamond system. I was interested, and did a bit of snooping about.
The video is a 27 minute film called Donald in Mathmagic Land (Disney 1959), and it was part of Disney's education series. I was able to see a short clip, but it was just the beginning, and not the pool sequence. I found the teacher's guide and based on it I think Donald had some good things to say.
Has anyone seen it? Can anyone find the pool sequence? Apparently Donald is unable to master the diamonds, but the info is sound. I'd love to get a look at this.

another movie with pool in it

there is a movie starring jerry lewis-not sure of the title. it has a hilarious clip in it with him in a poolroom, getting hustled, knocking all of the cues out of the rack, no i believe he throws them on the floor. he call a farfetched shot and IT GOES IN! takes all the money. anybody remembere the old west show(don't remember this title, either) with a straight pool champion(maybe balkline) coming to town? i think the champ laid down on a shot losing the money(dumping on his backer).

I guess I should have done a search on Donald Duck before I started the thread.... Goes to show you, you can find just about anything pool related here.
Anyone know where to get that clip in English??? I don't speaqk much Italian anymore, even though I lived there for 2 yrs in the 80's.

Rep points for your effort SDE.... Now who's got the Jerry Lewis clip? In English, not French (we all know he's like the comedy god to them)....please.

This was one of my favorite disney movies as a kid, besides the billiards lesson there's other great parts. You can still find it on vhs on amazon and other online retails along as ebay as stated above.

No, I haven't seen that one but I have been looking most of my adult life for the western I saw when I was quite young of a pool game that was being wagered for an attractive woman and I believe $10,000 in gold.

What was unusual about the movie is that the game was 8 ball and it was played by two men on horseback and the winner banked the 8 ball in the side pocket and it was extremely difficult to do because of the angle and position of the 8 ball. He made it and won the money and I believe he kept the woman but I'm not sure. :-)

I have periodically asked if anyone else had ever seen this movie and NO PERSON has ever reported that they had even seen it. Sometimes I even wonder if maybe I dreamed the damn thing. It was in black and white as I recall.

The western show is Gunsmoke, the episode is Cowtown Hustler. Jack Albertson played the part of the hustler, his name in the episode was Moses Darby.

The old western might be "Carambola" an Italian Spaghetti Western made in 1974.

I wonder if Donald Duck is still use in any school system for teaching Math.

I found a DVD version of the movie at a teacher website. I can't recall what the site was right off the top of my head, but it was offered in DVD with extras including web link. They also had the VHS. The DVD was only $10 more but I'm thinking about paying the $55 for the DVD.

Still would like to see just the clip in english.
