Done with Predator

I've had the Predator P3 with the Z2 shaft for about a year and a half now. No problems so far and it's the only playing cue I use. I average about 4 to 6 hours of play per week.

I try to take care of it but I will do whatever spin the shot calls for and have also miscued a few times. The cue is still in perfect condition.

If your miscueing, maybe you need some better chalk. I never miscue with this stuff: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=271528

Delaminated Z2 shaft

Hey guys!

I have all Predator cues in my case (playing, breaking and jumping) but I'm not a great fan of them. For instance, I love the Jacoby Cues design.
My one year old Z2 shaft delaminated near the ferrule in four or five places. Knowing of the lifetime warranty that Predator has for their products, I sent the shaft to them to have it repaired or, more likely, to send me a new one. So, today, after two days of having the shaft at them, I received the tracker code saying that on Thursday I will have a new Z-2 Shaft!! Yuppy!

This is a plus in image for Predator in my book but I started to save for a beautiful Jacoby! :D

I'd be happy if just one of the three emails I sent(after spending the time to fill out their lengthy form for a simple email) was returned.

I did manage to get them on the phone once nearly a year ago.

Is it possible that the top players who are winning all the titles with these cues do not have to worry about breakages as unlike the man in the street, they get immediate, free replacements?

You think Steven Tyler ever runs out of Coke while doing American Idol??

I think not...

I didn't know Predator LD shafts were so susceptible to these issues. Do OB and other LD shafts also have these problems due to the spliced construction?

That makes me even more happy with my 38 year old, old faithful solid maple shaft now, lol. Other than having to replace the ferrule once (after some clutz picked it up and broke with it a couple years ago - thinking it was his break cue), my shaft is as true as the day it was birthed. It has a boatload of deflection tho... I had a 4 time US Open "cashed" - the 1999 US National Am Champion - check it out and on his first shot, he completely whiffed the OB!

Have been making 6-pie laminated LD shafts for over 15 years now and have never had a tenon break or a cracked ferrule returned. Some years back I did have one shaft that one of the laminations opened up. I also have had only a couple of shafts over this time that were returned because of warpage. So no, not all LD laminated shafts have these problems.

ive had all the issues all the previous posters mentioned. the problems with tips, ferrules, joints etc. but they have been nothing less than stellar replacing anything and everything that was required. ive sent 4 back so far. one even spilt right down the middle of the shaft ferrule down to joint. all 4 shafts replaced with brand new shafts. sadly they didnt have any precats to replace with but meh. all i had to do was send the shaft back, call with tracking number and they sent replacements out same day...sorry for your customer support. hope the tiger works out better:)

The real fix

I've given up on manufacturer warranties because you are ultimately at their mercy. Anybody who works a full time job does not have the time or resources to fight these silly claims.

To address this issue I have a credit card with a feature that extends the manufacturers warranty by an extra two years. So when I've had issues with vendors such as Canon who also claimed my camera was "water damaged" and would not honor the manufacturer warranty I went to Amex and they resolved it with the quickness.

In fact I received a credit for my entire purchase from newegg for the camera of $340+. This FORCES accountability on the merchant to maintain honest business practices etc. I'm not saying predator is engaging in this and I love their products but I like to have this avenue.

The specific card I have is the AMEX platinum.

It's hard for me to walk away from Predator. I've owned two shafts so far with no problems whatsoever and I love the low deflection, definitely makes things a little easier with less compensation.

I want to check out the Jacoby Hybrid Edge shaft though, Fred was saying that he found it to be lower deflecting then the 314-2. I currently use the FAT shaft.
