you both clearly miss the point. I never said I play pool for only money. I play cause I love the game. I don't care how much money they pay out. I feel that league fees in all areas should cover flight and hotel at the least. areas can adjust cost so at least that is covered I have been to Vegas twice once for 8 ball and once for 9 ball loved it. I gave up on leagues cause of many reasons. 1st majority of league players only care about the money and there handicap no interest in being good people or pool players Don't get it twisted there are good people I know that. 2nd dues in the same areas go up when theres more teams yet the payout is less. I will see as of lately there are new owners taking over the apa leagues in our area and I have heard its getting better. a captain was caught cheating paperwork and this was a team that was making playoffs or going to vegas every year. The vnea is a popular league in my area and they also only talk about how much cash they can take and how low there handicap is verse there skill level.

I like to have fun and play for the sake of getting better not a big gambler at all. I would like to see more open to pro tournaments in my area I would glady play any pro for a 100 dollar buy in just for the fun of getting my but kicked by a pro. I don't want anything I feel IMO if I want to play in apa singles qualifiers but not be on a team they should have options If I was willing to play and won all I get is the spot in Vegas I pay my own way there. hotel and air fair on me. great experience and if I win make a little money.C'mon, this is not rocket science. The goodies are there to entice people to play in the league. You want the goodies without playing in the league. The world does revolve around and arrange itself to suit your preferences.
Amazingly, they don't care a bit about people in your position because they care about themselves and their league players. Why in the world should they care one bit about people who do not want to play in their leagues?
and the last thing Im going to post on this league does have its perks I know its not all bad and the league fees for a night of pool are cheap for a night of pool. all night on a pool table free food and some places even give a free drink of your choice great for 8-14 bucks never mind playoffs or vegs.
and just to put it out there the league I play in is 13 bucks a night I can play pool from 4 to close playoffs are for prizes no cash payouts even races. I love it.

Sounds like league and tournament choices are a little limited in your area. If so, that is unfortunate and I might feel the same as you if this is the case.
Lucky for me, there are plenty of league options and tournament I can choose from. Something to fit pretty much every kind of pool player here in NYC.
If you could round up enough interested players, maybe you could convince your local pool hall to run a tournament ?
