I have been browsing here for a couple of months. I have seen a lot of post regarding people being ripped off or not getting what they thought they were buying. As a new AZer, what can I do to protect myself If I decide to take the leap and buy a cue?

here are a lot of traders where you shouldnt have a problem. a lot of them are dealers, collector etc and have a very good reputation on the forums.

you might avoid people who are "unknown" on the forums, in general, when you have read through the forums during some months, you should already have detected the serious traders.

I used markus' (fast_n_loose) escrow service listed in the stickies for one transaction. Added a day or two and about fifty bucks to the overall cost of the transaction, but for me, it was well worth that extra peace of mind. I would not hesitate recommending his service.

Otherwise, check out folks' iTrader comments, insist on using PayPal and sucking up the fees for paying for goods/services, ask all your questions before you pull the trigger, and research the seller on the forums to get a feel for if they're legit.

I've been a forum user for a long time, but am relatively new on AZB. Despite that, I have had several transactions as a buyer that have all gone exceedingly well. As a new guy, it goes both ways; sellers are taking a chance on you, too. Welcome to the forum, and good hunting.

fast_n_loose are the way to go if you would like to feel comfortable and safe...

Marcus are a great guy to deal with and everything will be Smooth transaction....

Enjoy AZ....

If you stick around a while you know who you can trust based on reputation. There are many trustworthy people here. Deal with people who have high # Itrader and been here a long while you should be fine. Escrow w marcus for the big ticket items is a wise call.

Imo

My .0000002 with 1/10 of a grain of salt.

1) Wide open line of frequent prompt communication (phone is a must for me) No two, three word answers....full disclosures and details.

2) Escrow for anything above $500 IMHO

3) iTrader (gives you a general but good idea of reliability, especially if you check the iTrader #s of the person they dealt with) Ie. a 0 iTrader to another 0 iTrader wouldn't make me too comfortable. Also, read the comments about the transaction. Are they buddies? Simple purchase of a tip? Not really.

4) Not only look at how many posts the other party has made, but what were they about? Informative? Helpful? Or just "nice cue", "GLWS", etc. which isn't a good thing in my opinion.

5) The old addage "You can judge a man by the company he keeps."

6) Pictures should be provided upon request by Buyer if the Seller is really motivated to sell. Also, proves that the Seller has the product in-hand

Thanks,

Taemin

Heck, that is an easy one to get around. Just deal with me....lol.

Seriously though, there are a great number of people on AZB that will stand behind what they sell. These same folks will also offer a refund minus shipping if you feel that what you received was not as described or you find something that was not disclosed in the item description. And the ELITE sellers offer an unconditional return policy that lets you try out the item for a few days before the deal is final.

Most on this site understand that it is hard to spend a lot of money on something you can't hold in your hands and provide for this situation.

Deal with people who offer money back if not happy....

I do this and always have if they wont dont do business with them.

But trust me there are alot of flakes here.

I sold a cue to a guy for nothing practically. He *****ed, moaned and groaned and I told him if he wasnt happy send the cue back and I will return his money.

I got the cue back send him a check and then he was REALLY pissed. He wanted a money order. There really isnt any difference, but whatever.

I am about to the point of not dealing with AZers anymore. It has really gone downhill.

Hang around for a spell. You'll then figure out who the frequent sellers with a good reputation are.

Escrow would definitely be a good choice for new Azer's
Marcus aka Fast_loose is the man for that
Check some past transaction thru itrader for confidence
Just my 2 cents
