You sink 5 balls on the break and you're left without a shot or an easy safe.

As if 3 balls wasn't easy enough for my opponent to run, he got to start with ball in hand!!!!

Andrew Manning said:All the time. I play 8 ball primarily, so for me it goes more like this: I sink two solids and a stripe on the break, and the remaining solids and the 8 all land in wide open spaces with clear paths to multiple pockets, and I have an easy shot on a solid to start with. As hard as I try to silence it, there's a voice in back of my head singing "break and run, break and run" and an even more insidious one already mumbling about the advantage I'll have being up one more in the score with my opponent now scared of my ability to run out at any time. These two little voices (that I haven't yet figured out how to ignore) get me so worked up I totally hook myself after the first shot, or scratch, or rattle a ball in the corner, or some other such careless mistake. That's when I have to remind myself that if I break my shaft, it's going to cost me $200 to replace.
