Dr. Kenny D's 2010 Searing, video plus short story/history of cue

Thank you for the video link. I'm even more perplexed 'bout Searing cues than before.
In any event,, the video was definitely an added treat to see versus just some photos.

I highly doubt I will ever own a Searing cue not because I don't think they are worth every penny but I just don't have the means to afford what they go for on the secondary market and I believe Dennis is currently not taking orders. (I do not know this for a fact, it is what I've been told by some more entrenched in the industry) However, I will say that the shaft I recently acquired made by Dennis Searing originally for another cue, is they best item pool related I have ever purchased dollar for dollar. I recently read the thread on Asian players explaining why Southwests are so popular with players from that region and they mentioned "powerful" shafts, I didn't really get it. Now I understand what was meant, the shaft does the work. If you stroke the cue ball it is crisp and moves at a rate that just seems to be more consistent if that makes sense. After a few strokes and pocketing balls and seeing the reaction of the cue ball it is so easy to see it reacts the same way, it is consistent to point of not being believable. I have only tried one Searing shaft and I have not weighed it yet, but my closed bridge is done, the weight of the shaft allows for a open bridge which lets me see the cue ball better. Now that I know I'm left eye dominant thanks to Geno Machino and Scott Lee gave me the keys to speed control I feel I'm on my way even if I'm not best player in the world. Now it's all up to me. No excuses, if I can't learn to play better it's all in my head.

Tom,

What are the specs on your Searing shaft? Was it a close match to what you prefer to play with?
I recall you mentioning you use it on your Runde cue so I am presuming the shaft would be piloted?
Would you know if the tip is original but regardless, what type of tip does it have? Hardness?
I presume a Searing shaft would have ivory ferruels. Does yours? Does it have a short or long taper?

As you know, I am fascinated with the anatomy of pool cues and intrigued by Dennis Searing's rep.
You are now test driving one of his cue shafts and so I am hoping to acquire more insight.
I am baffled by the price of his cues versus other great cue-makers and earnestly question how come.

Anyway, you're getting some firsthand experience and I have regard for your opinion about pool cues.
His meticulous workmanship is duly acknowledged but there are other cue-makers as talented...IMO.
I don't have any urge to own a Searing cue but I'd like to understand what makes his cues so popular.

Thanks,

Matt B.

13.01 mm, 4.31 oz. Ivory ferrule, 3/4 inch Ferrrule I think, not Dennis standard. I'd pay $1000 for one; totally serious Matt! I think the tip is a Kamui Original Medium. Buy from me!!

Searings dont have that long of an actual wait list per say.....its that he really seasons and takes that long to make all the passes....and I'll have to ask Ken if he is or not, I do know Mr. Dennis had gotten pretty sick not long ago from what he was telling me.

also I know for a fact that he bought a 75k dollar lathe.....took it completely apart ad rebuilt it because it wasn't "up to his specks"

just putting it together you can tell the quality......it really is a crazy fine precise piece of equipment and art....the inlays are as small and perfect as tony or whomever you put against it.

I've only hit with Kens a handful of times, its not built for my preferences but imop its a very fine hitting cue indeed, and I wouldn't complain if its what I had to shoot with.

Can I afford one? No. Well I could buy it, but I dont have 10k to throw at a cue...house first lol. But if I did. Theres not one thing about at least Kens cue that would keep me from doing so IF i did have said cash.

Oh the cue is still dead nuts straight by the way.....at the end of the day from all ive gathered from many sources including Ken....seems like dennis is not just a perfectionist of high power, but also patient......and in my opinion PATIENCE, is the most important thing about building cues.
