Brunswick Billiards & Dragon Promotions Expand Into India: The Brunswick India International 9-Ball Open

Bangalore, India- Dragon Promotions announces its latest growth with its move into India along with partners Brunswick Billiards and Pro Sports India. The 1st Annual Brunswick India International 9-Ball Open will be a historic event as it marks the first time ever a major pool tournament will be held in India. Previously, India's stake in the billiard world has pertained to mostly snooker, but the interest in pool has grown and continues to grow.

The Brunswick India International 9-Ball Open will host a Men's and Women's division. The event will not only bring all the players from around India, but will invite international billiard stars as well. The event is slated for September/October time frame of 2008.

"We are enthusiastic about our expansion into India and our new partnership with distributor Pro Sports India. We have a long-standing relationship with Dragon Promotions, and with their solid track record in Korea and the US, we thought they would be a good fit to help us launch 9-ball into India. Brunswick has experienced strong international growth and India represents another important step for Brunswick Billiards. India is the world's second largest populated country and has a middle to upper class consumer market of 300 million people." explains Sean Cummings, President of Brunswick Billiards. "India has a long tradition of supporting cue sports and we believe the timing is right to promote Brunswick products in this mega-market". said Cummings.

Brunswick Expanding

Pro Sports India is based in Bangalore, India which has become a booming city that is quickly becoming Asia's version of "Silicon Valley". Major companies such as Google and Intel have already built buildings and offices there. Pro Sports India will have exclusive rights to all Brunswick Billiards products to distribute throughout India's 1.1 billion population.
"We are proud to represent Brunswick Billiards in our country. Brunswick is by far the biggest billiard company worldwide, but also one of the most trusted and strongest brands in indoor recreation. With India moving more and more towards western trends, we felt it was invaluable to be associated with their name. We would be establishing and working closely with distribution partners across key markets in India to ensure the Brunswick Products & after Sales Services is easily available in the local market "says VINOD GOPINATH, President of Pro Sports India.

Dragon Promotions will help market and increase brand awareness of Brunswick in India through its promoting of billiards as a sport there. Using its knowledge and resources from DP's experiences in Korea and US markets, Dragon plans on elevating pool to new levels in India.

"We're thankful for Brunswick Billiards bringing this opportunity to Dragon Promotions. Sean Cummings spent time personally in India analyzing the market, and after hearing the results of his trip we were all very excited." said Cindy Lee, CEO of Dragon Promotions. "Dragon Promotions enjoys exploring new projects and markets, and India seems to be ripe for us to cultivate."

Dragon Promotions is doing a fantastic job of expanding the popularity of pool internationally. THIS is how pool may eventually get into the Olympics, not by a bunch of guys sitting around and talking about it. By creating these tournaments all over the globe, he is helping to strengthen the organizations that sanction them. They may then have the clout to appeal to the Olympic Committee successfully.

It is the efforts of groups like Dragon and Matchroom that are doing the most to increase awareness of pool's worldwide popularity. My hat is off to Charlie and Cindy and the hard working crew at Dragon. Keep up the good work!

The UPA

The UPA doesn't need to be complimented until they get the Arizona event paid off in full. How dare they blame the players? There is no excuse for this.

Grady, I agree with you wholeheartedly, but Dragon Promotions is NOT the UPA. And they (Dragon) did not produce or promote the event in Arizona.

Charlie's handiwork

Charlie Williams founded the UPA and also Dragon Promotions. How does he not bear some responsibility in this matter? It's bad enough that he's doing team trick shots and invitationals, which I predicted he'd do. He has abused his position from the very first day. I had really wanted to be positive about things when I posted on this forum but this stinks to high heaven.
When Ritchie and I had our $61,500 added event in Reno, there were 6 snowstorms. Noone could get in from CA, the passes were all closed as was the airport most of the time. The gate was a paltry couple of thousand dollars. Ritchie had a stroke a month before the tournament. In spite of these things we paid, IN FULL. You know this, Jay as you were there. We were also boycotted by the then MPBA.
In Maine, I had a seniors tournament with $15,000 added. That week had the worst snow of the winter. I drew 23 players. I paid in full with no complaints.
NOW, if the UPA wants to be THE org. of prominence in our sport, this has to be settled, now, not later, with no excuses. Have you gotten a load of what they want, in order to sanction an event with them? It's not cheap.
I just wouldn't have the nerve to tell a player at one of my events that he wasn't going to receive his prize money. Lastly, before the internet critics assail me, I know a very fine Atty. if the guys wish to start a class action suit.

Yeah Grady. I'm delighted that you're back. Don't apologise for your strong opinions no matter how many may disagree. You have the experience and the background to be regarded as the elder statesman around here. We need your take on things...Tom

blaming Charlie (or Dragon Promotions) for the mess in Arizona is like blaming vince Lombardi for the Packers loss this year to the Giants.

Can it really be true, Grady, that you fail to understand that Charlie is NO LONGER AFFILIATED WITH THE UPA IN ANY MEANINGFUL WAY? (although he may be a dues paying member).

If you were to explain the relationship between Charlie and the UPA to any attorney, and still insist on pursuing legal action, not one attorney would take the case and you'd become a laughingstock.

Now, if you were interested in pursuing legal action against the UPA, as it stands legally today, well I think the players have a fine case and would support that decision.

So, to sum it up, Charlie hasn't had anything to do with the UPA in a couple of years. Outside of that, I would be interested to see, through either arbitration or trial, what the UPA's responsibilities are. I think Frank Alvarez would be surprised.

Hope your well grady!

I just came back from Bangalore India straight to Las Vegas.
India is a fascinating country, and the potential there is massive.
They primarily play snooker and a version of carom billiards played on a table with pockets, and pool is pretty much virgin territory.

But the players I met there are very excited. Everyone involved is confident of a pool boom there soon.

Its a massive size country and the numbers of players there are countless. I believe it wont be long before India is another serious player in the World of Pool.

Everyone at Dragon Promotions is excited and honored to be the ones who brings India pool forward to the new millenium
