Very nice Buhska.
Looks like it is in great shape and well kept.
Thanks for sharing the pictures.

What would it take to get Santa to deliver that under my tree this year? What other cues have you got? Anything that you can actually shoot with?

Thanks for the complements. I have thinned my collection way down I only have about 10 or so high end cues (Gus's, Balabushka's and Mottey's), plan to keep my collection small while adding a couple of select items.

Definitely one of the nicest Buska's I've seen... good condition and lots of inlays!
I concur! By far the best looking Balabushka cue I've ever seen. Then again, I haven't seen to many, but this one is just outstanding!

Jeff, on the value Sotherby's thoght at auction it could bring enough to buy a very nice house in the south.

BTW, who really knows what anything it worth, but most will agree there are very few nice examples of work by the really great legendary cue makers. John Wright used to tell me that if a wooden duck could sell at auction for $750,000 or Eric Claptons guitar for almost a $million, why couldn't a cue by the legendary builders like Gus or George be value the same way. I tend to agree his thoughts, one of these days there will be an auction in NY where some great cues will be sold.

i agree totally and think george's and gus's are still bargains compared to all the other cues.

Balabushkas with rings above the wrap are the fanciest examples. How many rings are above yours,9 or 7? I have often wondered what value would be placed on a Masterpiece like yours on Antiques Road Show. My guess as to the number right now would be about 15% of what the decoy brought. The high priced Decoys and Duck calls are bringing big numbers because they are considered Folk Art. Early examples are considered to be the first works of their kind, not the fanciest. I have several calls that are currently worth as much as a vintage Balabushka or Szamboti.:D I might add that there is one master cuemaker that also makes calls (Duck and Turkey) and they are among the finest modern day pieces.

not to embarass rich about him being filthy stinking rich or anything, but i have no idea what a bushka like this is worth and wondered if some of the bushka experts would chime in with approximations. obviously it would be whatever someone would be willing to pay so that answer is already covered.
one other thing the cue is not for sale so it's not really about this cue but just bushka values.

Hey Jeff, the challenge is these cues are selling in Asia for huge dollars, one I know of specificially was over $100k, you're right mine isn't for sale ,except for maybe when I move back to Georgia (in which case I can drop it off at your house when I drive through, just kidding).

To be honest as mentioned before someday there will be a public auction of cues by the great cue makers like Gus, Barry, George, etc, so not sure we will really know the true values until then. Having said that I know what I would pay for a Gus 8 pnter (since we know what one of the last ones sold for) and I'm sure someone would probably pay more than me, but in the end to me great cues are like great works of art by the masters.

Happy Holidays,

Rich
