Dress code in tournaments

Since I was dead money in the Florida Open, I thought at least I could dress nice. The player agreement said polo, no t-shirt so I thought I would wear my nicest button down. I was scheduled to play on a TV table and showed up 10 min early. I am glad I did because I was asked to change from my button down to a polo 🤔. My wife ran back to the room and got a polo so I wouldn't violate dress code 🤷

Watching the Texas open with guys wearing short pants, SVP with a baseball cap, its no surprise to me pool has no big sponsors anymore...it looks amateurish...

Not saying suits should be worn but whats wrong with black trousers and a polo shirt like they used to?
Black. It's TeeeVeee fchrysssake.

Moronic.

I don’t do it and don’t want to, but a suit can be worn most anywhere. Baseball game or Supreme Court. As men used to do. Hilarious a suit would violate a dress code at a pool tournament. Those folks got a furlough from the HOA board or something.

ok. and why should this british, outdated, urban attire from the 19th century be the norm for modern peoples fashion?

dress codes are good, but should reflect our times. and i'm fine with slacks, polo, discrete shoes. but don't make me wear a bowtie or other stupid shit

There's no comparison btwn snooker and pool.as far as a marketable product and the public relating to a who's who when it comes to players. Snooker had major sponsors with the likes of Rothmans,Benson n Hedges, Lada, etc etc and most importantly Barry Hearn who managed the top eight snooker players and the weekly show Pot Black which had a big viewership and the public knew the players. Pool should be bigger than what it is considering how many people play and other than the pool community outsider public haven't a clue of who's who.

I hate it when someone comes to a tournament with ripped jeans shorts and sandals and legalize marihuana or free Palestine t-shirt,
Yeah probably this. Still, you gotta have the <colors>. Bicycle racing, sponsor jerseys and pants, F1, GT type motor sports, all set in eye candy down to the blondes, brunettes, etc... The Asians are hip to the glitz - they forgot to lose the black slacks but it's a start.

should be a dress code in big tournament (and yes, the texas open is big).
It doesn't have to fancy, something like - dark long pants, dark shoes, polo shirt will do.
Players should want that too, it has to do with some self respect and respect to the game.

there is a saying - "if you look like a million bucks, you feel like a million bucks"
and we can add: "if you feel like a million bucks, you play like a million bucks"

I tend to agree.
I feel the same about (!)
..... so I always Mute the productions.

TX....
It's frikkin hot down there in the summer.
Like refereeing for 5 days in IA, we had a dress code, the room a/c worked too good, Most everyone HAD TO put on sweatshirts to stay warm.
We stop checking after awhile, but yeah all the other stuff ''is'' important, and if you want your kids to watch/play.
What's ironic, not till the large bar table pool rooms came into being, did the dress code start to slide.
Alcohol pool rooms.... gotta pay the rent.
Yep, dress code makes it look like what the public thinks of the game. Cheap
The Jr. players always seem to dress nice.

I saw nothing wrong with it. The outfit looked athletic. The shirt was a pool jersey, the shorts were longer cut, not baggy or super short. The baseball cap... I don't really care. Maybe the lights caused glare.

Seriously this is silly. It's not like he was wearing a bath robe or something. DCC isn't matchroom and over a multi day grueling event, player comfort needs to be considered. In all honesty I could see something like this being worn at a golf course and not even raising an eyebrow.

How does black slacks translate into a million bucks? And, only one to three guys are even close to playing like a million.

Pool player don't want to have to be in compliance with DRESS CODE, but cry about no money in Pool. They are a group are own works enemy.

So if you go to Applebees, do you wear a 3 piece suit?

Shane was in compliance with the DRESS CODE at the event. If he wasn't, they would have made him change. It's happened to players at the DCC before. Nothing to see here, no violations, and Shane came home with the money.

We could argue about what people wear and how it's not attractive to sponsors, but what he was wearing was athletic, nice clothing. I'm not even joking when I say it wouldn't even raise an eyebrow if he wore that outfit at a golf course.

No big sponsors, you say?

Nobody who has any interest in watching a pool tournament is turning it off because people are wearing shorts.

It's one of those things that has the appearance of, but we all know it doesn't matter. It's being nitty as hell worrying about what the pros are wearing. Especially when it's normal clothes.

Would I personally like shooting pool in slacks and a polo tucked in? Absolutely not. I don't expect the best on earth to wear nicer clothes because it looks a little low class on tv.
