DRESS CODES - in general

And FYI, comfortable dress shoes look like garbage.

This is all I think of when people start debating about dress shoes. Most comfortable dress shoes look like kids shoes, and most sharp looking dress shoes are a ***** to wear for hours on end whilst walking round a table.

"Smart" clothes don't have to look smart. Making slobs dress in (their own choice of) dress shoe, smart trouser, shirt and waistcoat only ends up looking less professional than if they had just turned up in their own clothes.

Formal wear suits snooker, it doesn't suit pool. Something close to the golf style would work a lot better, I think. And especially in terms of more colourful outfits. Pool is a boring game already, making its players dress boring does it no favours.

I don't see anything wrong with a professional tour or tournament requiring a certain look. But to have a dress code for a bar league is ridiculous imo.

dress code

this is just my opinion...

but I think ALL competition pool, at any level should have a dress code EXACTLY like THIS:

And the Shoes should be something VERY similar to this (or nicer)... they feel literally like tennis shoes, but don't look sloppy! I feel as if a NO LACES requirement is much more appropriate than "dress shoes", but the rules should state that shoes must be black, brown, or dark gray

In my opinion those things look way worse than some of the sports shoes posted earlier on.

It's true that everyone has an opinion as to how white sneakers look with business casual attire compared to a traditional dark color. Some actually think that dentine-white sneakers with neon-fluorescent color accents look "good." Others -- many others, including myself -- think they stick out like a sore thumb. Sort of like someone's feet was chewing Orbit gum -- "mahvelous!"

Anyway, this is really a "hey look -- a squirrel!" distraction.

"Business casual" is probably something more appropriate in BUSINESS rather than sport. The name says it all. If you want this to be a sport, treat it like a sport.

btw, those shoes look hideous. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yf9j4QnVK-s

Hmm... that was a HUGE snip, with laser focus on just two little words out of that whole post.

So dentine-white sneakers with neon-fluorscent accents (extra credit for flashing lights) constitutes a "sport" look?

Question for you -- what's wrong with a sneaker that isn't white in color? Is all this hubbub about the *color* of the shoe?

Racist....:D

No, it's not about the color. When was that even hinted? Because I said those all black Nike looked like a Pizza Hut server? That was a joke... yet very true.

Sneakers come in all colors and all colors can be appropriate. Just like dress shoes, not all of them look good...

For example, shoes like this:

would look great with a shirt like this:

Possibly white pants and a blue belt to tie it all together.

Because the ones you keep linking to are all white, with neon accents. It's like you're saying we should be allowed to look like Rickie Fowler indoors. You do realize that pool is still an indoor sport, right? Why the fixation on running shoes, under the guise of "a sporty look for a sport"? You want a pool player to look like he/she is about to run a marathon or something.

There are stark differences between indoor and outdoor sports. A sporty look shouldn't have to be defined as "must have running shoes."

Table tennis is also an indoor game. They don't wear dress shoes. It's a sport, they treat it like a sport. Being outdoors makes dressing bright more ok? hmmm... ok. Noted.

Are these not white enough for you?

Why are you so averse to people wearing sports shoes indoors?

Golf shoes or a nice pair of indoor court shoes look nicer than a pair of Rockport to me. More importantly, they look more appropriate. You disagree, it seems.

Really now? You're trying to say that pool requires the same quick-footed traction and exertion as table tennis? What do you play -- speed pool?

I gather this is REALLY all about you expressing yourself, right? I mean, all the fuss about bright colors and what-not. Is that it?

Yes, I do disagree. Not for league or casual play -- heck, I play straight pool in my sneakers as well. But for tournaments or other higher-profile events, I believe in dressing the part. The World Tournament of 14.1 is an exception in that the higher-escalated dress code is a nod to straight pool's rich history. That's all that is. I'm not saying that we have to look like that for, say, the Predator ProAm tour.

You said you don't need athletic shoes because it's an indoor game. I simply proved that wrong. That's all.

I get that you simply will not understand. You don't want to understand or possibly you're not able. That's ok... you don't have to. You wear Rockports and LL Bean shoes with a suit so I've got a pretty good idea of your speed...
