Dress up & play

I LIKE IT! Just because of your blog post, I am going to dress up for the U.S. OPen One Pocket Championship. (Maybe also, it is because it is the rules of this tournament). I know, I know, I need more than nice clothes to get there but at least I will have fun trying.

I've always admired players who dressed up to play pool. Jimmy Reid was one of those that comes to mind and another classy older gentleman from Georgia I believe, who passed away a year or so ago. He dressed so classy, he once put Corey Deuel in a 9 Ball coma. I guess clothes makes the man.

Dress

My wife constantly makes fun of me when I Put on a nice pair of slacks and a button up shirt to go play pool. But I honestly beleive that if you look good you feel good, and if you feel good you play good. JMHO

Marco,
I am a jeans kind of pool player but I'll change it up just a little bit, just for this tournament. I don't know how much "showing" I'm going to do but I plan to have some fun doing it.

You reminded me to charge up my camera's batteries and bring some extra batteries for my Flip HD Camcorder.

I prefer to be well dressed when playing. I'm not looking for sponsors or anything like that but, if you want yourself and/or your sport to get some serious attention. Then I belive you need skills and to be well dressed.
Most sports have some kind of dresscode and I don't see any excuse for not having it in pool.

I love the idea!!I keep looking at the 3C guys and they are almost always dressed in vest and tie black dress pants!Look at the Derby 3C tournement the players look real professional!Personally I am getting tired of looking at players who constantly have jeans t-shirt sneakers etc. Esoecially the older players who are trying to look cool but really look out of place.

Please take this as constructive criticism meant to make your site more enjoyable and easy on the eyes.

I would like to read it, but I can't until you lose the white font on black background.:) My eyes feel like they're bleeding:)

Please experiment with some different colors that are my subtle.

Here's a article on why white on black is a big no no. Especially post 3, where he describes what I see. A "blob".

Good Luck!!!

I have a feeling that some older players may be trying to look cool but most may be just trying to feel comfortable. I'm not a fan of those long pants that are about 16" short of the ankle but some guys say they are comfortable. I haven't worn them and don't plan to as they just don't appeal to me personally but that doesn't mean that others aren't comfortable in wearing them and if they aren't in a tournament, I say lettem be. I also seldom wear T-shirts because I just don't care for them for me personally.

I hold onto the notion that "older players" have the right to dress anyway that their environment allows them to, even if they aren't dressed to my tastes.

All this goes out the window once they are competing in a pool tournament. A little improvement in the quality of dress is a good thing for pool.

As for jeans, I like them because they are comfortable first but also very important is that they are DURABLE. Walking around a pool table can put some hurt on your clothing even if you are careful. I bet I've torn a dozen pairs of dress pants playing pool. It's no fun when a nice pair of dress pants hangs up on a pool table as you're turning the corner or stretching for a shot. Many of the tables in recent years have improved these tear prone areas of the tables.

Anyway, Marco, keep preaching the Gospel of Good Dress. It's all good.

If there was ONE thing that would help our game and change the American Public's image of us it would be ''appearance''.

European players speak loudly and positively in this area.

I've been to events twice where the promoter implemented a dress code or told us media was coming and to look sharp, only to let players in with Tee shirts, baggy and torn jeans (we need to increase the numbers was their excuse). Also, the promoter who always portrays themselves as sharply dressed was in sweats/both times. You'll never see Jay Helfert do this, or anyone that puts the game before ones self interests.

Wow guys! That is soo cool! Obviously I am not standing alone. I'd love to see the whole pool world be dressed like the guys from the 3C and the snooker sometime, maybe even better ;)

@CaliRed: that's cool - changed it. How do you like it now?

... and I am always curious about more opinions ;)
