Drill-bore-face-1 tool

I received mine today. It is a very well made tool, a great value and I wish I had found one many years ago. Thanks for a job well done.

Good Cuemaking,

My new tool broke a few weeks ago and I'll be darned if I know how or why. I have been using carbide boring bars for many years and never
had a problem. I sent an email to Neil Lickfold and explained that it
had broken. I got a replacement in the mail yesterday. I DID NOT ask
for him to replace the tool because I didn't know why it broke -- it could have been something that either Steve or I did.

I really appreciate the gesture on Neil's part and I want to point out again that it was not necessary. I will be happy to pay for the new tool if Neil will let me.

If you need a carbide boring bar Conetip (Neil Lickfold) is the man.

Good Cuemaking,

Good Cuemaking,

ill seconf that i had one break aswell and bam! he sent me a new one. great guy and great tool thanks neil!!

Carbide is very brittle. Boring at too fast of feed rate or taking too deep of a cut will put a lot of strain on those thin shafts.

Since I got one of these tools it has spent far more time on the tool post than off it. I use it for just about everything that does not involve a lot of stock removal. It's a very handy tool.

Damaged tool

Great tool
Just wish I had not broken mine, I will probably get another in the future.

Post the bits to me and I will see what I can do for you.

jaws trued

Mine came on Monday I believe. I put it to work on Tuesday night as I made a adapter to mount a different chuck on the back of one of my lathes. I drilled a .375hole through a 4.5" X 2.5" cylinder of aluminum. I turned the outside down to 2.5" and then turned the other end down to 1.75. I bored one end out to 1.397 and the other end out to 1.87 so that both ends would be a shrink fit. I then heated the chuck end up and inserted the chuck so that when it cooled it was locked on. I then trued the jaws up. After this I went to run something through it and that is when I saw that the center hadn't been bored out so that a dowel could pass through. My standard boring bars weren't long enough or to big in diameter to be used in the small 3/8 hole I had initially drilled. I didn't want to remove the chuck as the jaws had already been trued. I remembered this little, long boring bar and it reached plenty deep enough to get the job done.
I also used it a couple of hours ago to bore a straight hole so as to put 3/8-10 threads in a shaft. Very handy. I have a boring bar that is 5/16 minimum 4" long that has a tool steel shaft so it is not as stiff as this one plus this one is just slightly over .250 so it is easy to bore a 5/16 hole deep enough for a pin installation. I'm happy!

DICK, How did you true the jaws on your chuck? Which size chuck, and was it three jaw universal? Do you have a pool cue lathe? ie hightower etc.
and can I true that the same way, I have both?
thanks, Bill

6 inch double ended

If people would like the 6 inch tools ground on both ends, please mention it in the order.

Airtravel inside NZ is restricted at the moment from the Chille volcanic ash cloud.
Flights out of the south island have been cancelled all week, as well as to Melbourne and Sydney. Air New Zealand were the only carrier operating and have to fly below 20k feet.
As far as I am aware, these restrictions do not apply to Northern Hemisphere air traffic, but the flights into and out of Auckland are below 20k feet.
