Drop ceiling options

I thought there was a thread on this already, couldn't find it.

Raised ranch, lower floor, grade level walkout on concrete slab, LVL beam, unobstructed 25'x30' room, contains water heater, well tank, washer/dryer with sump pump and pipes.

I should probably use a drop ceiling, but I hate the way they look.

Anyone have any info on "pretty" drop ceilings?

Why not "rock" the ceiling? Are there surface mounted pipes, etc? You can always fir down the ceiling to get a flat surface and do soffits where the major lowered sections are. I'm with you, almost anything is better than suspended ceilings.
What is the ceiling height now?
 
Regardless of how you close up the ceiling, consider insulating the floor joists to help deaden the sound.

This way you can sneak out of bed during the middle of the night and hit balls without waking up the better half.
