Drop pocket installation question

I'm coming down the home stretch of building my first pool table. I need some advice about how to attach the drop pockets to the table. The inner part of the pocket (against the slate cutout) has 8 individual leather straps. 4 of them are pre-punched with holes. Are these supposed to be attached to the vertical face of the slate backer or do they attach under the slate? The holes don't really line up for either option but I can make new holes easily enough.

I'm new here so I can't post a picture. Hopefully this makes sense.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

That totally depends on the design of your table. My personal preference is for them to mount underneath, but I like a cleaner look where the "guts" of a table (hardware) are hidden.

you can tack them to the slate liner either "in" the pocket or under it, as long as you're not screwing up the pocket alignment in the process...

if you tack them inside the pocket, also utilize red leathers

I think I like the idea of fastening them underneath as it would look cleaner. I'll see how the pocket sits in the opening and use whatever the natural alignment of the straps ends up being, so as not to distort it.
