> The other NSK thread got me to thinking about their use in another application. Is is possible to have both a high rpm air spindle like that AND a large router like the Kress for all your tapering,on the same machine? Modular spindles with a tight dovetail mount for alignment? Or,instead of doing a tool change, the spindle rotates like the turret on a industrial CNC? Tommy D.

My new machine has two stations (sort of). I have a headstock and motor on a dovetail with a tailstock. Next to that, I have a rotary table (a axis) and another tailstock.

I have an NSK spindle that mounts to a dovetail on the Z Axis and a Kress Router that does the same. I can change from one to the other in about a minute.

I actually haven't even mounted the Kress on the machine yet as I just to the NSK mounted on Monday and then got flooded.

If you built your own, I guess you could make the Z Axis wide enough on a Gantry style machine and use whichever you wanted without having to change them.
