Dual-tapped shaft

I did a test many years ago with an insert that was tapped with both thread forms. All it does, is it takes away the effective thread of engagement. The 5/16-14 insert will need to be opened up to take the 18 tpi thread, and lowers the engagement of the thread. It may as well be only around 1 pitch long. Long term, it will strip out and damage the pin. My work around was to making brass inserts that had 14 tpi and another insert with 18 tpi, placed into the shaft. That has worked very well, but I have been unable to play for the last 3 years.

Interesting, my comment was not reflective of your response, we were typing around the same time.
