Dufferin Conversion

I'm getting a real nice looking Dufferin with butterfly splices and was wondering what it was going to cost me to have it "converted" into a "nicer" cue. I was thinking fake ivory joint, hoppe ring and 2 shafts. I'm not sure if it is a big problem or not but this model has the pin in the shaft with the insert in the butt. I'm not planning any fancy ring work just black collars with maybe a silver ring. Depending on cost I might want to try an ivory collar around the joint. I'm usually pretty cheap,but I'll give you some idea of what you might have to spend.
$200...2 new shafts
$20.....fake ivory joint
$35.....New butt cap & fake ivory Hoppe ring
$100...Ivory joint collar
$50-$75.....sand & respray the whole Q whith a new finish

BOTTOM LINE ...IT'S NOT WORTH IT...JER
 
hmm,350 bucks that's about what I figured ( minus Ivory joint). Can you point me to another cue with 2 butterfly spiced points and 3 veneers for 350 bucks?

I don't do butterfly points,but my guess is, a new custom Q like you described would be $600-$800...JER

Sometimes when you re-turn those cues to a proper size and taper you can run into funny stuff, glue lines, voids and so on. You also will have to make the weight correct for you. I think in many cases putting that kind of money into jazzing up what is a cheap cue is a waste. Spend the extra and get a decent built cue. JMO.
 
I've had "decent cues built" . None of them were exactly what I wanted. This was 10 years ago before my long layoff and I preffered something different then. JER I really like the designs in the few cues of yours I've seen. Is Dufferin that inferior to schmelke? or a Valley? The few makers that do Butterfly splices are hard to get a hold of. I'll just keep lookin'.
