Dufferin Cues- What do you think?

I love Dufferin. I was sad when I heard that they went out of business and sold their inventory and basically everything else to a Chinese company that is making cheaper cues under the venerable Dufferin name.

When I was about 12 and got my Brunswick table that I still have today, my parents bought about 15 Dufferin cues from Wal-Mart at about $20 a piece or so if I remember. 2 piece, metal joint, solid maple 58" cues ranging in weight from 18-21 oz.

They have been used and abused for going on 20 years now, and for cheaper cues are still straight as an arrow, have a pretty fluid hit and still look glossy and great. It really is amazing.

I was able to get my hands on a 60" 21oz. Dufferin Titan a few years ago, and it's the only cue I ever play with now. I am just a hobby pool player, usually play just in my home.

I was just wondering what others thought of Dufferin?
 
Dufferins

They were a good solid cue (1 pieces were) that played well especially for the money. I have known a few guys in the past that had Dufferin SP's.

For my personal tastes, the butt was a little too big, and they were slightly back weighted too much for me, but for grabbing a house cue off the rack in a spur of the moment money game, they were good.
 
I have too Pre Chinese Dufferins they are great.

I've 2, maybe 3, Dufferin Phantoms (pre-china), I think that for the 70 bucks I paid for each nothing can touch them. They play very well.

Some things are a national heritage and should not be sold overseas, Dufferin was a national heritage of Canada. Of course, to remain competitive Dufferin would have had to have had the cues made in China, so I guess it really doesn't matter.
 
Dufferin was one of the best house sneaky petes I ever held. Snapshot9 already mentioned the same.
 
My favorite cue of all time was a dufferin butt with a white delrin ? buttplate, phenolic joint and shafts added. The cue was about 3/4" longer than a normal cue and I'd trade my Bludworth (which I like alot too) for it in a sec if I could find who stole it.
 
probably one of thosr SP's that cost $750+, and you don't wanna take it out to play....hence it stays at your house...? Remember when you could get a "GREAT" SP from a big name maker for under $500? I think it was only a couple of years ago :)
 
The best house cues ever made! They are coveted by cuemakers who want to convert them to two piece cues.

It sounds like we should hold on to the pre-Chinese cues?
 
IMO champion house cues hit a lot better than dufferin house cues. they have a taper that's more like 2 pc cues and have decent ferrules.

My friend had a dufferin sneaky that hit really nice tho. wayyy better then the POS meucci i had at the time.

OK, send me $1400 (US or Canadian, makes no difference to me) and you can have my 20oz/13mm Dufferin Shadow and I'll toss in a Dufferin house cue (17oz with a 12.5mm tip). I picked the house cues very carefully 13 or 14 years ago when I got my table, they are lovely wood imo, and I'll send the best of the bunch. Same with the Shadow, but it's a bit newer, perhaps 7 or 8 years old, but picked with the same care and attention to the beauty of the wood. I don't really want to sell them, but I like you Jay, so I feel OK offering them to you .... or anybody else with $1400 :D
