Dufferin with buffalo tip

I have an old cheap Dufferin cue made in Canada. Since they too are now being made in China, I have kept it hoping it would appreciate in value.

I decided to experiment & have a hard Buffalo tip installed & try it as an alternative to my phenolic for breaking.

Its been a nice experience. Chalking is no longer a 2nd career. CB control is incredibly easy. And I am beginning to explode the rack.

Just be prepared for when your tip explodes as well. The hard WB's work well but they are so hard they are quite brittle....at any given time, the slightest miscue will cause a chunk to explode from the tip.

I'll give Kevin another shameless plug. I don't use WBs anymore since he uncovered his soaked Triangle recipe. The soaked Elkmaster is better than the milk dud, and the soaked Triangle holds chalk and breaks like a monster. I modified his recipe a little bit, but soak them in mineral spirits and press them - you'll like the results.

I consider a warning from you to be major cause for concern. Are there viable non-phenolic alternatives?

Why don't you just use it? If you miscue and it breaks then put another on. I have one on mine near two years old. But then again I can't remember the last time I miscued on a break. There are two types Black and Brown. The Brown is a little less firm but it is still hard. I use the Black and it is hard.
