Dyeing a cork wrap?

Hey guys!

I recently bought a cue with a cork wrap. I love the way it feels when I play but I hate the look as it doesn't fit in with the aesthetics of the cue.

Is there a way to dye it black using a fabric or leather dye without it comeing off on my hands when I play?

Thanks,
Tom

Leather dyes work well, I believe Tiger products also offers some sought of dye. The real question is and Please correct me if I'm wrong. I seem to remember you having a sweaty hand problem and not a little one either.

Yes Mike, my hands do sweat a little. Not Quite as much as they used to, but still do. I think thats why I like the cork so much even though I hate the look of it.
I was at Mike B's house tonight and he has some of that dye from Tiger. Do you see a problem with it and my sweaty hands?

I started a thread about this exact same thing about two months ago maybe. Search through my threads and read it. Get in touch with RatCues. He can do it no problem.

Here is the link to the thread.

If you hate the look of the cork but like it's absorbing qualities. Put Elephant. I'm sure Mike B. Can take care of you without shipping your cue out.

I actually have a few pieces of leather I got from Paul. I wouldn't mind having Mike install one but he said it would be a few weeks before he had the time. If I bring it to you can you put one on for me? I've always been impressed with your leather.

You would have to leave it. I would have to see the leather, doesn't matter who you got it from. I buy a fair share of leather even from some of the people on this board, and throw a lot in the trash too. Just because it's leather doesn't mean it should be on a cue.

Well I decided to give it a try with the leather dye. I have a friend who plays in my league and he owns a shoe repair shop so I went and got some of the dye that they use.
It was very simple to use. Just shake up the bottle and put a little on the included applicator and wipe it on the object to be dyed which in this case was the cork wrap. It took all of about 5 minutes including masking off the cue to avoid getting any on the finish. It looks a little like leather and I think it looks light years better than the plain cork.

I'll let you guys know how it stands up to use.

Here is a few quick pics I snapped.

that looks great. did it affect the feal any? i'd be real intrested to know how the dye holds up and if it tranfers off to your hand or not.

No it still feels great. I played with it at league tonight and the dye held up great with none coming off on my hands.

Here are a few better pics:
