Earl is a disgrace!

If you were somewhat more insightful you would realize that it isn't stupid. There were good reasons for supporting Earl in the past. The behavior of the Euro fans at prior Mosconi Cup events was a good reason to support him when a lot of American fans were abandoning him while ignoring the Euro crowd's behavior. The fact that Earl's behavior in the past hasn't been as completely childish as it was at this Mosconi Cup when at the same time the Euro fan behavior was not very problematic is a very good reason to stop defending him.

I hope that is an aid to your thinking process, such as it is.

There's also no need to yourself engage in personally insulting innuendos while failing to back up anything you say with any kind of logical argument.

You should feel ashamed for all the people who wasted 30 seconds reading that.

Earl is a disgrace

IF the Mosconi Cup would have been held in Europe Earle would have been Lynched. He is a poor loser and should be banned for life

Didn't most of this board villify the the European crowd's outbursts and sharking at last year's MC in the UK?

Cue sports seems to be pretty popular over there.

I've said it a dozen times on this board..............conflict creates entertainment.

Don't jump to conclusions. You have not yet posted one intelligent thought in this thread. You appear to be just another of the AZB trolls who are a waste of time to bother with.

Troll shouid be your middle name. I remember when you started chump. From day one all you did was cruise from thread to thread starting fights with no point other than to argue in the guise of having "intelligent" conversation. You've contributed nothing but aggravation. You just left a thread in the NPR a little while ago where you called some guy you don't even know a coward. Insulted some guys work, and talked shit to a few other people. If anybody is a troll it's you round mouth. AKA Troll dickson,

Yeah 9 ball Mike well said - In complete agreement. I used to like Earl but I any professional sport cannot allow this to continue. His whole behaviour and attitude was a total disgrace and shamefully embarrasing for American pool fans. He should not be allowed to play in the Mosconi Cup again.

Troll dickson,

LOL :grin-square:

Mr. Strickland has been the way he is for some time now. There were no surprises at all, so all this outrage is kind of entertaining for me.

"I am shocked, SHOCKED I SAY! To learn that there is gambling going on at this establishment!" (pockets winnings)

He's a self-confessed Tool-Flavored Tool with knobs on. Pack of toads on this board wondering why the snake bit them in the head half way across the river. IT'S HIS NATURE.

But I bet if it comes down to it that Earl would gladly retire his cue if it meant that it would save Billiards. If sponsors said "Well not if we have to have Earl there" He would say FINE and step solidly aside or sign whatever contract needed to be signed to keep his temper in check. (Like it would make a difference)

His name is Earl, and he isn't trying to be a better person.
I kinda like that about him.

From a Billiards Digest Headstring News article in 2006 regarding Earl's Hall-of-Fame induction speech:

  • Strickland's bad temper is well-known and documented in the pool community, but he asserts that it always in the name of a deep adoration and reverence for the game. He compared pool to "the worst drug on earth." "I would nearly want to kill someone to play a game. I stole from my own mother to play pool," he admitted to a roaring audience.

His speech took a serious tone, however, when he spoke of his new distinction. "I'm a Hall-of-Famer now, I'll be walking in another pair of shoes."

Hes nuts, what is anyone going to do about it ? Nothing. He attracts people because they are waiting to see him go off, a lot dont want to admit it, but they do.

They should make him the captain next year so he can give motivational speeches, to his team, the opposition and the fans ! I think it would go over well.

In reply to the original poster, he's not a disgrace, he's just become a bit of a throwback. He was selected for his ability AND his behaviour, as someone said above, conflict creates entertainment.

The closest snooker player to him in terms of behaviour was Alex Higgins, Higgins carried snooker on his back for many years in terms of attracting a crowd, as Strickland does now.

Although he brought it on himself, it broke my heart the way it ended for Higgins and the way he was treated by the authorities when he had outlived his usefulness.

Earl has been given a free entry on the Mosconi Cup this year. He shows why he can't be a team player. He showed how immature he is by treating the Europe players with Dis-respect. I am one of Earl's fans, but he is like a cancer to the USA Team, sucking all of the life from the team. This year just gives goes to show why Earl was gone from the team,This is the last straw for Earl, no more Mosconi Cup for him. I feel bad for the other players on the Team..HE JUST CAN'T KEEP HI BIG MOUTH SHUT. :-(

Team USA is a cancer to Team USA. They're just 5 guys wearing the same shirt, the word "team" never enters into the discussion

As the commentator Jim Wych mentioned in the documentary, Earl has mental health issues i.e a bipolar disorder. He probably has little control over his outbursts. Someone close to him needs to get him some help.

Earl and others with his illness are "distastful" or "unacceptable" because you really can't see their disability, but once they open their mouths they become easily identifiable. If he were in a wheel chair because he was missing a limb or a down syndrome person would some of you be as intollerant? I suspect that in addition to bipolarism, he also has some sensory disorder issues, a possible emotional disconnect that doesn't allow him to have the same "social filter" that most people have, kinda like tererets, it wouldn't surprise me to find out that he also has aspburgers and some savant traits but instead of math or something like that he has pool, and likely ADHD. I don't believe he's just obnoxious, this is fairly evident by his recurring behavior, he does the same thing over and over and his behavior is childish, not childlike. If he does have stuff like this he could only hope to control it with meds, and not all the time. High stress situations would still produce anxiety and unpredictable behavior.
I think of Earl as an artist and a certain amount of crazy is acceptable, but mental illness that can be somewhat extreme at times is difficult for most folks to deal with. You guys that Earl is just an obnixious prik, do you cross the street or go out of your way to avoid a person with a physical disability or an identifiable disability of some sort, or a homeless person? Granted, someone with what Earl may have can be difficult to take, especially if you take everything personally and can't understand why he is like he is, but most people don't even try to understand.

Please stop bashing one of OUR sports GREAT Champions. Earl is not has not and will not ever be a disgrace to the sport or the country.
Its like calling Phil Hellmuth a disgrace to poker.
I am a very level headed player and treat pool and my opponents with the utmost respect but even I have felt the urge to shatter a stick over my knee. Until you have played in the ultrahigh tension situations where the object ball becomes the size of a basketball and the cue ball is the size of a golf ball no one knows how they will react.

The pressure of billiards can shatter your ID thankfully your EGO has selected memory.

I think Earl is probably one of the best players to ever play the game. I do not like it when he acts out.
I wish the referee would take control of a match. The first comment would be to the crowd. No flashbulbs or cell phones. Also something should be mentioned about outrageous behavior or trying to distract a player. Automatic expulsion.
Then, he/she should address the players. No talking to the audience. No comments, whatsoever, about their opponent. No talking when your opponent is shooting. No personal comments or actions which can be construed as a detriment to the game. Tell them that they will be warned just one time. That warning could come with a fine. The 2nd warning is automatic expulsion and a bigger fine. A player faced with loss of a match and a big fine may maintain their composure. Is this too much to ask?

I was hoping for a US win and at this point I am having a hard time watching. Not because we are loosing but because of the behavior of the US "pros"

Europe has a team of highly talented and highly professional players. So far they out broke us, they out shot us and they out scored us... I can get over that. Watching our "pros" behave the way they have is hard to fade.

Amazing that high quality companies aren't rushing in to associate themselves with our guys and throw money in to the game. Go figure.
You have summed it up pretty well. One thing that bothered me was Shane and Johnny didn't play on day three and Dennis played twice. I hate to lose with my best horses still in the barn. I understand save them to try and win if you are still in it, but based on the score on day three Team USA didn't have a very good chance of winning the match anyway from that far down. If Johnny and Shane could have played at least we would have had a chance to put a couple more wins on our side and make the end score a little more respectable than 11-2!

Just a thought for what it's worth.

So glad to see you equate sportsman like conduct and manners with a lack of masculinity. Earl has called his opponents "fags" several times, ask Souquet (documented on youtube) or Chris Bartram (DCC). His game can no longer do the talking.

Earl can play, and i love to watch him shoot, but there's no way he's good for the team.

If the captain really had a choice i doubt Earl would be there. What he brings in shooting he gives up 10x that in pure embarrassment to the team.

He's there for the Jerry Springer effect.
