Earl: My opinion of him has now gone down

Hi Folks,

A couple of years ago, I posted a comparison of Earl with Dale Earnhart. Each was sometimes both loved and hated by the same fans. Both received multiple "second" chances after doing despicable things to competitors. It seems in our new world order, cheating and getting away with it are just another part of the game. An old friend summed it up perfectly, "you snooze, you lose"! :(

Can someone PLEASE tell me the last time Earl won a major pool event. Having watched him live several times I can honestly say human stupidity knows no limits.

Earl's behavior at the Open has not lowered my opinion of him one bit. ;)

Well what was his behavior like ? was it like always , well that's the way he is I guess , you know what they say you could leed a horse to water but you can't make him drink it, no matter what, he's still one of the greatest players ever !

Why worry about it? When I saw Keith slam away at an off angle 9 ball combo when he had an easy 4 ball out I figured the fix was in. Even the announcers were at a loss.

It just shows you that you can't trust a pool player. Not when it comes to money. All are road warriors, hustlers, and will take your last dollar if given the chance. Of course many will tell you that was in the past. Like the latest two who joined the prestigous hall of Fame.

As the General said, "you people are stuck on stupid".

Hey Steven,

I also heard that "you can lead a horse to water and sometimes it drowns". Everywhere in sports, we coddle the "stars". My stars are the men and women who risk their lives daily to protect all of us. Every once in a while, even they go (or are lead) astray.

I've always been a fan of Earls brilliance, but watching him right now on BCn, has made me lose a lot of respect. He just isn't even trying, gets up and misses ball-in-hand shots, hasn't bothered to even acknowledge Ralph Souquets play, doesn't know when it's his shot, etc. He turned in one match an enthusiastic supportive crowd against him. That crowd of spectators includes me.
Maybe he shouldn't be in the hall of fame. Steve Mizerak is watching the match, someone Earl obviously respects, and aside from the occasional brilliant run, he isn't really trying....
Ralph is on the hill as of this writing. Let's see if Earl wakes up...

Whats your opion now!

My opinion about what he did in the Souquet match is still the same, but he obviously played some classy matches after that for which I and his other fans are much appreciative. Like someone else said, the "good" Earl showed up for those matches. I guess it's ok to nominate him for the Hall of Fame now. I'm not as pissed at him as I was earlier.

Can anyone explain what Earl's internal/mental demons are? I mean, theRE HAS to be an explanation.

a very interesting and very plausable take.

another could be an all or nothing attitude, with frustration getting the better part of him............like duran's quit against sugar ray.

Whatever makes Earl tick today is a combined result of a bizillion things, many of which we will never understand. I for one would still back Earl in an action game pretty much against anyone on the planet!

my brother does what Earl does,he finds a person in crowd that he feels said something (right then ) right at that moment and yells towards him, I have seen Earl do this a few times ( points ) in the crowd , he must hear them voices you always talk about in your threads or post Barbara!

these people are sometimes called crazy ( but they aren't really ) :D

Hey Steven!

I see you're from LI. Do you know of a teen girl player by the name of Erin? She was kicking butt in my tour, but disappeared this year and I'm guessing because of high school senior obligations. Is she still playing that you would know of?

Hi- Barbara,I don't know of her , where in L.I. does she play? I'm not living in L.I. at this time.

Steven

She lives in the midle of LI - Port Jeff/Islip.

Damn good player. Smart, too - not a reckless "kid" kind of thing. I'm just guessing that with all high schoolers have to do any more that she just doesn't have the time to play with her other comittments.

Steven,

Here in Rochester during a Joss event several years ago, I was sitting at least twenty five feet from Earl in the grandstand eating some pretzels. At the end of a rack against Keither, he stopped, turned and told the crowd to quit making crunching noises. If he heard me, he must have stopped concentrating on his shots to listen for the noise. There must have been a hundred people in the room making some kind of noise simultaniously. He only heard my bag of pretzels. Sorry, he is one sick puppy. He is never to blame. It is always someone else judging him. His talent is undeniable. His persona is up for question.
