More like earl the rotten tomato. I dont care what people say about earl and how bad he is you have got to love him. Dont try and blame pools lack of mainstream media on him its not his fault people dont watch the game. Strickland is a competitor and he may get a little nasty at times but he still is great great champion. And to tell the truth I love watching him explode it spices things up a bit. He is like hellmuth to poker its fun to watch. I love watching great pool like the next guy but just running rack after rack can make me sleepy. Bottom line the game needs earl

Earl is EXTREMES. What does that mean? As a fan don't always expect Earl to be 100% professional and on his game, he's TRYING (I really believe that) to deal with personal demons, sometimes he fights back the demons sometimes they're kicking his butt. Players probably have to wait until match time to see what he's going to be like, if he's having problems they just have to ignore it. He is rumoured to be a very nice guy by those who know him (one extreme). I've experienced the the other extreme and was probably as angry as anybody could be. When he's feeling good he's nearly unbeatable, when he's not he is very vulnerable and usually makes a spectacle.

Terry<has demons too:(

What we're witnessing is the degregation of Earl's prozac/blood concentration. This is what causes the flare-ups. Earl is as good for pool as Terrell Owens was good for the Eagles.

i have gone from....i don't like earl and his antics,,,to,,,i understand earl and his desire to see pool played in perfection,,,to,,,earl is a crybaby. his latest whine about 8ball takes the cake. he is a crybaby of enormous proportions.

it's not about blaming him for the state of pool,,,,that's ridiculous, as you say. but "competitor" is not what i call someone who quits on a match. "champion" is not what i call a great player who quits on a match.

bottom line, YOU need earl. the game won't miss him.

Hmmm.....I am not so sure about that statement...The game will still be the same with or without Earl...Would it really have been any less popular today without Earl? Someone else will always take his place if he never was...or when he is gone....(happens in every sport)

I think it is more that "Earl needs the game" ......Perhaps not anymore, but what else is he "world class" at? Where would his fifteen minutes of fame have come from without pool?

I would hope that Earl feels like he is one of the luckiest guys on earth that he has been given a gift of talent that was provided to him courtesy of "the game"

I agree with Ken in a big way.

In reality, in the world of professional sports, billiards has zero popularity. Its television ratings are even behind curling and badminton. Its paychecks behind chess and bridge.

With or without Earl, the sport would be in the same state. However, based on the past... wild characters are the ones that capture the imagination of the general (non-shooting) population... i.e. Fats, so I like having him around... (Unless he really quit a match.)

I did not hear about Strickland quitting a match and would like the details. I just find that hard to believe and don't like that behavior at all.

I had a good friend that quit during a match against me because I three-railed an 8-ball shot after he missed and I ran the table for the win. He started stomping around and unscrewing his cue, and complaining about the table conditions. I told him not to quit, that we are all playing on the same tables with the same rules, but it did no good.

Nice post, people can say what they want about
Earl but you can't deny he's entertaining, just
like McEnroe was in tennis.

I didn't like it when he said:

"You suck, you suck, all of London sucks!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Team USA takes day one Mosconi Cup Lead

Team USA completed a terrific comeback on day one of the 2005 Mosconi Cup as they came from 2-0 down to win three games on the spin to carry a 3-2 lead into the second day of competition.

With the scores poised at two apiece the final doubles match of the day, the Euro pairing of Mika Immonen and Marcus Chamat fought back from 4-0 down to tie the match up at 4-4 and leave opponents Earl Strickland and Rodney Morris reeling.

However, the match ended in controversial circumstances as Chamat time fouled after the cue ball ran out of position. The clock and audible bleep, which counts down the final five seconds, failed to go off properly and following deliberation with tournament officials, referee Michaela Tabb allowed the Swedish player to play the shot.

He fouled though and from there, the Americans cleared to take the match.

By that time though Strickland's ever shortening fuse was about to blow. Firstly, he walked out on a live TV interview with Sky Sports' presenter Andy Goldstein and then became embroiled in an unsightly slanging match with European supporters.

"You suck, you suck, all of London sucks!" yelled the three-time World Champion before being visibly restrained by his captain Johnny Archer.

Personally i cant stand Earl, and if i was playing him, i would do the same antics that he does during a match just to make him look foolish.

Now pool doesnt need Earl. If Earl was to never play again big deal, i doubt anyone would really care, and someone else would take his place.

Personally i wonder how many people actually would like to pimp slap him after a match for the crap he does, during a match.

It seriously is a shame to see someone with his talent just act like a lil bytch all the time cuz things dont go his way.

The thing that I've noticed is that when Earl is having/causing trouble it's HIS game that really suffers, usually going from bad to worse. As to whether pool needs or wants him, it's irrelevent. There is NO one single entity but Earl himself that can decide that. Individual tours and tournaments could take action but ONLY on their own behalf.

Here is the absolute proof why the wind always blows in France!!!!!:p

Our constitution says that the punishment should fit the crime. your crime does not warrant a death penalty.
