Earl vs Charlie

These two champions met today at Planet 9 ball and for the most part it was one great match.

Charlie jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

Earl was in his usual form sporting a new type of glove on his left hand. And of course his mouth was going non-stop. Complained about Charlie's rack. And Charlie's luck. And Charlie using a jump cue. He kept it up and finally got into Charlie's head around the 5th rack when he said to Charlie he was no leader.

Then Charlie started talking back to Earl.

But then Earl was in spectacular form and really put on a great exhibition fighting to tie the score at 5-5. In rack 11 there was some real good defensive play by both players and neither wanted to make the 5 because the 6 was tied up. Finally Earl made the 5. The 6 was wedged between the 7 and the 8 and Earl could only see the edge of it. He skimmed the 6 moving it a half inch so now it was completely hidden between the 7 and 8 leaving Charlie a kick. Charlie kicked and hit the 7 leaving Earl BIH and an easy 4 ball out. Earl made the 6 and 7 but for some reason when he sank the 8 he left a long shot on the 10. And then he missed the 10.

The last rack didn't look good to Earl so he just raked the balls conceeding the match.

And after the match Earl had that look in his eyes where he is staring and I couldn't tell if he was looking at me, through me, or someone behind me and said, You're glad I missed. Admit it. You want to clap.

He sure is a trip.

My only question was did he really dog that 10 or did he want to go home and dumped the game? Afterall, he proved to himself that he could come back against Charlie.

No one will ever know.

I'm just pissed that I didn't take the bet against Earl. But one never knows which Earl will show up for the match.

There sure were a lot of great players there.

So they were playing 10-ball at Planet 9-ball. Surprised the sun didn't implode.

Cheers,

it's a stop on the Florida Pro Tour. They started playing 10 ball last year. You can see the brackets on platinumbilliards.com

Shane also plays on the tour and posts here.

He and his partner, Egan I believe, from Ireland, post the scores as they are being played. A novel idea. They are in constant communication with each other via headset phones and one is on the computer while the other is walking around the room checking on games in progress.

I believe they will have a shot by shot commmentary for the final match.

Earl

Talked with Earl Fri. night.

He STILL has kidneystones, that's giving him fits. He said he was going to try and play anyway. I was supposed to stop and see him on Sat. since I was in Tampa, but I was too busy saying goodbye to my best friend who's dying of cancer. (original purpose for going).

Tough trip....

Did Earl tell you about his broken right hand? And the poor scouting report? On him I suppose.

Neither did the rest of us. LOL

When he arrived for his match with Charlie (came close to getting forfeited for being late) he wouldn't shake hands with a spectator and said he had a broken hand. Then he started rambling about bad scouting reports on him. Other sports have scouting reports but not pool he said.

And what is that with his Cuetec Cues?

Are the cues so bad that he has to use duct tape on the butts to make them feel good? That sure is not a good impression he makes on Cuetec.

Charlie could really get under Earl's skin if the next time they played he would tell Earl that he wouldn't miss so many easy shots if he got rid of those Cuetec's and got on board with Pedator.

That should start a battle.

I wonder how he felt when nobody bothered to watch his match against Jeremy Jones. John DiToro vs Gabe Owens was a better show.

Oh, and tell him he will get his wish. In the future when he misses a shot I will cheer. And raz him. He sure is missing a lot of balls. Missed the one completely against Jeremy, and then raked all the balls. That happened against Troy a few months back at Strokers. Maybe his eyesight is going downhill.

Apparently J+S (sponsor) don't seem to mind too much.

I'm not your message boy. Why didn't YOU tell him? You had the perfect opportunity, as he was "staring right at me, or thru me".

IF you would had ANY nutz at all, you would have told him yourself. Grow some if you can, and YOU tell him next time you see him.

A bit touchy are you?

Earl doesn't bother me one way or another. I was feeling sorry for him the way he was behaving. And thought that maybe the stories about him being on medication are true. I don't know and I really don't care.

When I watch a match I really don't care who wins. I don't wish that anyone misses a shot. (I only wish that when I am playing.) I hope both players play their very best. And I try not to say anything that bothers either player. Show them a little respect while they are performing. And yes I had the perfect opportunity since I had the best seat in the house right between their chairs within arms reach. All for free I might add.

But Earl is Earl. I think he is funny at times. Stupid at other times. And a lot of times he says and does things that only he knows what they mean.
I used to think that it was part of his shtick but the more I see him the less I think so. And believe it is just a defect in his personality.

But when he is in stroke he sure is a great machine to watch.

Not too touchy

He's a different guy away from the table.

I'm not here to defend Earl. Earl is Earl, plain and simple. He's not going to change.

I do know he suffers terribly with the kidney stones. That just makes his temper that much shorter, and with his drive to win....

But, your right. When's he's on, he really is something to watch.
