These two champions met today at Planet 9 ball and for the most part it was one great match.
Charlie jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
Earl was in his usual form sporting a new type of glove on his left hand. And of course his mouth was going non-stop. Complained about Charlie's rack. And Charlie's luck. And Charlie using a jump cue. He kept it up and finally got into Charlie's head around the 5th rack when he said to Charlie he was no leader.
Then Charlie started talking back to Earl.
But then Earl was in spectacular form and really put on a great exhibition fighting to tie the score at 5-5. In rack 11 there was some real good defensive play by both players and neither wanted to make the 5 because the 6 was tied up. Finally Earl made the 5. The 6 was wedged between the 7 and the 8 and Earl could only see the edge of it. He skimmed the 6 moving it a half inch so now it was completely hidden between the 7 and 8 leaving Charlie a kick. Charlie kicked and hit the 7 leaving Earl BIH and an easy 4 ball out. Earl made the 6 and 7 but for some reason when he sank the 8 he left a long shot on the 10. And then he missed the 10.
The last rack didn't look good to Earl so he just raked the balls conceeding the match.
And after the match Earl had that look in his eyes where he is staring and I couldn't tell if he was looking at me, through me, or someone behind me and said, You're glad I missed. Admit it. You want to clap.
He sure is a trip.
My only question was did he really dog that 10 or did he want to go home and dumped the game? Afterall, he proved to himself that he could come back against Charlie.
No one will ever know.
I'm just pissed that I didn't take the bet against Earl. But one never knows which Earl will show up for the match.
There sure were a lot of great players there.
