Earl Warming Up @ Sandcastle Billiards

The clothes worn by pool players has zero to do with why it is not popular in the masses. Anyone saying that is grasping at straws.

Poker is one of the most popular games out there & the majority are not dressed "professionally" yet it has not hurt the popularity of the game.

Poker is a game. no different than chess.
If pool is to make it's case as a sport, and climb the ladder of notoriety, then he has a point about the dress code for professionals.
Rules have been established between leagues and unions such as NBA and NFL where players must wear suits and or dress for success while traveling to and from the game. Of course that has nothing to do with the sport or the overwhelming mass appeal-but it does carry that image of success. And that's the solid base where a house can be built.

Call it a game but it is & will always be more popular & no silly dress code will change that. Comparing pool to actual professional leagues like the NBA & NFL is beyond laughable.

Pool is a niche sport & will continue to be so. All these ideas that are supposed to bring it back to relevance never pan out & I doubt they will anytime soon. I love the game but choose to be a realist about its spot on the pecking order of society.

I gotta agree with ya. If Earl wore Bermuda shorts, with flip flops, while donning a snorkel, I'd come watch him play ;)

It's not until a sport respects itself until it's respected by the masses.
If pool focuses on the here and now and throws it's hands up then of course it will never advance. But to be successful in life, no matter what career, sport, etc-focus on those that are extremely successful and dare to say we could do that too.

So if a quarter of their success is achieved, would that still be a successful operation?

I see many professionals in pool who work just as hard as other professionals in more successful sports, only they don't have the income to erase worries of bills and financial security, so I see them as harder workers.

Earl has said all of this before. So in the mean time, I'll always compare those type of athletes in pool to other professional sports in the hope that someday the sport, fans, and the rest of the world catch on as a whole.
