We pretty much ALL want to see Earl do well and return to form. What we don't want is the Earl that makes almost racist comments, belittles fans, and quits matches.

Nobody likes to see or hear that. Be intense yes, be a jerk, no.

Anyway, congrats to Earl, who knew you could play one pocket :-)

John

Dont get me wrong here iwas real happy for earl to get a win and thought maybe he was coming around. Then I hear he quits against mike davis being down 7-5 race to 11. Now im disappointed again

exactly.....nobody is disrespecting earls ability to play the game, his past record, nada............people have problems with his attitude and his sportsmanship.

not trying to argumentative here john, but to a certain extent we do want him to be a few of those things you mentioned. not specifically those things obviously, but this type behaviour does to a certain extent endear people to people. denying this would be a bit stupid imo because it's just human nature.

everybody likes a great player. but it's those quirks in a character and unique patters of behaviour that make people LOVE a player.

What is an example of an "almost racist comment"? I have never heard of that.

I've not seen Earl play one hole and only ever heard it happenning a couple of times. Who is his coach and how long has he been serious about that game?

Andy

I don't like to witness unsportsmanlike conduct from anyone, period. The fact that his skill level is light years beyond me makes no difference whatsoever. Rude is rude. One of my favorite quotes:

Wrong is wrong, even if everyone is doing it. Right is right even if nobody is doing it.

a month or so ago, whenever it was he played bj ussery at shooters, it was around that time he matched up with this road player (looked like a young kid, had a good looking girl traveling with him) and he lost about 3k to the roadie playin 1-hole

O.K. We as fans did not drag him through the mud, he put himself there and some just tried to pull him out. As far as his skills he has a great shot and knows how to play the game, but as far as respect you can't earn that with just a title. We don't always have to agree with someone but right is right and wrong is wrong. If he wants my respect he will need to earn it with his attitude and his actions. There are a lot of people that can't play his type of game on his level that I do respect and that is because of who they are.

Comments that border on racism. For example Earl would often admonish fans if they clap for a foreign opponent.

I don't have any quotes for you and don't really want to stir that up. I am sure that there are many of us who have watched Earl these past ten years who know exactly what I mean.

I have never heard one Earl fan say they love Earl when he deprives them of the experience by walking out on a match.

Nor have I heard anyone say they love Earl when he belittles foreigners.

Or when he starts going off on fan - not endearing to the majority of people.

Do we want to see intense Earl? Big stroke Earl? Ten racks in a Row Earl? Hell yes.

Earl was my hero. I wanted to be just like him. I copied his break, the fast style, btiched and moaned about everything, thought no one should ever be able to beat me, broke cues, quit matches. And I got just about the same treatment from people - they didn't much care for me when I acted like that. Of course they loved me when everything was sunny and I was the life of the party.

Now I am much mellower and much happier. Still intense, still want to win, still get frustrated when I don't play great. But not so much ego wrapped up in it anymore.

That's what I want to see with Earl. Less ego - more firepower.

I want my hero back - the one who dazzled me with brilliant pool.
