I don't know what Earl's latest gadget is, but to the OP, have you seen 3 cushion rubber wraps? I used them for a few years on my pool cues and liked them a lot. (later went back to normal but that's irrelevant). They come in a couple thickness ranges, and they are noticeable in your hands. The thin ones are about $5 each, and the thick ones about $15 each.
Edit: I just read your other post. These wraps are tacky rubber, so you can hold the cue super loosely and it won't slide. I'm also 6-3 and I made this wrap end actually at the bumper of the cue, so I could easily grip the very end of the cue as needed. You roll the wrap on, and with practice, you can locate it wherever you like.
