...Just tap it something like a tip-tapper. That's what I've heard anyway, personally I very rarely tap it or tip pik it or scuff it...

If that is fact, then please explain the hair on your palms and your ever-approaching blindness!! :D

How about this one?...

I was cleaning my shaft one day and--BAM!--the tip flies off and hits the ceiling....ahhhhh...that was goooood....time for a smoke.

I don't believe so. I think NTC is just the full name of the company. I have some NTC chalk with a red label and It is basically the same as Master's in my opinion. A friend has some NTC with a black label he swears by it and won't use anything else. Maybe the black label stuff is the "Player's Choice".

Funny that you should bring this up because over the weekend I tried some black label National chalk. I had it in the basement and thought it was cheap chalk. I think I got it with my pool table about two years ago.

The best way I can think of to tell you what I thought is. 'Anyone want to buy some Master's blue chalk?' It was noticeable how much better the National black label held. It felt like you were putting something on the tip, not just rubbing something across the tip.

Guess I'd better go buy a gross of this National black label stuff before the word gets out.

Where can you get this stuff, they went out of business and the only kind I can find is the red label.

Players Choice Chalk is no more. Silver Cup bought out National and they say they will not produce the Players Choice and that the formula was not passed along in the sale. I wanted to get them to produce that formula as a private label. They say they have changed the formula on the National Tournament Chalk also, for the better in their thinking. But the sad news for all those who sent PM's to me about buying some of my Players Choice, I won't sell even a cube since I will never be able to get some more. Sorry. I guess I will be out of luck in some months also.

It is probably a pretty good bet that "for the better" for them means "cheaper".

Isn't this thread and the 'pre-flag' thread saying anything to anyone here? Someone needs to go into business making pool chalk. What is the price of Masters? Maybe $5 for a small box. Personally I wouldn't mind paying twice that for good chalk. Seems to me there is money to be made here. I just don't have the money to invest.

I totally agree and that is why I was hoping they still and the formula for Players Choice and I would invest the money to have them produce it under a private lable for me. Does anyone know someone who used to work for National that might could get the formula? If so I might invest in trying to have it made. If not our only choices are too little chalk on tip with Masters or too much chalk on tip with Silver Cup or National.

Different chalk

> What I use is that Pro Billiards Tour label chalk that NTC used to make,it's the same as the black label NTC,commonly seen here with an APA logo on it. It's just a hair softer, covers better, and doesn't seem to be as subject to dampness as the Master, which I also have noticed has changed. Believe me,it's not that totally crappy red label NTC you used to see in sporting goods stores or K-Mart. I got turned on to it by Nick Varner back in 1994,giving me a sample box when I asked about it. I then bought 2 gross from the PBTA office, and still have about 1/2 gross left, but not gonna share. I like it better than the Master, plus I like the fact that most other players see it and try to move it off the table or throw it away, thinking it is somehow "inferior/cheap",but I wouldn't be using it if i wasn't totally sold on it. The Triangle chalk is also quite good, and if you can find it,there used to be a brand almost identical to Master and has a "club" on the side, like a deck of cards, sold by Steepleton Billiards in Louisville.
