Early Adam Corsair

It has a shaft from a Galaxie and a Corsair, check out the rings

Interesting. The shaft that has the most play is a mismatch too. I would bet the original owner wanted two shafts, so the dealer snatched an extra one from a Galaxie.

I know people are skeptical about the prices, but I've seen enough of the fancy early ones get pretty decent money - like $600 or $700 on auction.

Here's a page from the August 1977 catalog. I also have it as a Corsair. This design was discontinued shortly after that. Also, here's a page from the same catalog that shows what appears to be your case. There were two cases, a vinyl and a leather. Does the case have the Lion stamped logo?

I would put the value at between $800 and $1000 for the cue with two shafts, assuming it's pretty straight and the case at $200 - $250 if it's leather. The old original line Adam cues do have somewhat of a collectible following. The quality is good. The reason why the values aren't higher is because they were production cues and there were a lot made. Even then this was somewhat a retro 60's design. If you have homeowner's insurance the cue is probably already covered.

Thanks for the catalog picture. If they quit making them in 77 or 78 I wonder when they started the corsair? The matching shaft is the perfectly straight one. The mismatched one has a slight warp. I wonder if the original owner got a galaxy replacement after seeing the corsair shaft wasn't straight? Did they come with only one shaft? The case doesn't have the logo. It is the one from the top picture.

I am making a comparison between the catalog that was posted and my cue and it almost looks like they are not identical. Certainly a corsair but possibly a slight change from year to year.
Mine seems like it has an extra layer in the window laminates. It also seems like the squares in the rings are maple on mine and plastic on the catalog one.
The Galaxy seems to have the maple ring squares like mine but possibly a brass ring. Or is that just my mistake? It looks like one of my shafts is like the catalog and the original is older when they were made differently. The Corsair rings look like aluminum to me but I have heard they are stainless steel. Anyone know the truth on that?

Yes, this is what i said up front- $880 to $1200 for the right buyer/collector- the cue case is real leather according to the catalog- a rare find in great condition. The 3rd edition of the Cue Blue Book has photos of both cues. His Corsair is an upgrade with the four veneer windows and that leather wrap,I believe. I wish that I could buy the package, but I understand that he won't sell. It would be a nice addition to my 3rd Catalog Palmer Model 12 with the DeLuxe Palmer case- I could start a nice early 70s collection of cues and cases!

It's a bummer that the catalog pictures are not clear, so the real cue details cannot be made out. The same photos were used for all of their catalogs. you could look around the internet for photos of the same model. The catalogs and price sheets are not even necessarily dated. Both the 1976 and 1977 catalogs have your case, undoubtedly the cue was made around that time.

The first catalog line of Adam cues were introduced around 1970 then they expanded their line around 1975. I believe the Corsairs were made from about 1975 to 1978. They are in the 1976 and 1977 catalogs I have and both catalogs show your case. I have seen a lot of Adam cases but not the one you have. The smaller cases in the catalog were vinyl and cheap, but that one of yours looks pretty nice. Can you tell if it's leather?

Yes I would say it is definitely leather.
