Easiest way to get a 314^2 with a united joint?

I noticed some guys have the 314^2 with an actual united joint in it, not just a 5/16 14 joint. What's the easiest way to get one of these?

Also I heard some people mention using a 5/16 14 joint with the united pin is a little "loose", what's the story with that?

PoolDawg carries them, but they come at a premium price.

I shot with a Predator for 7 years. I just got my first Mezz earlier this year with a WD700 shaft. Although the WD700 plays great, I was really curious how a Predator would hit on the cue. I picked up a shaft that would fit from Seyberts and the collar fit PERFECTLY. However, I noticed that the threading still wasn't as snug as the WD700 was, and I couldn't accept anything less than being 100% satisfied with the shaft so I sent it back. It just didn't feel as solid as it should, but it could have been because I was using a much harder tip than normal (usually play with Elkmaster but it had a Kamui Black S on it). I'm still waiting to have the extra cash to pay for the United 314 from Pooldawg.

I gotta tell ya, I'm really liking the WD700 and may end up never picking up another Predator *shrug* The deflection is damn near the same but the shaft just has so much more of a quality and lively feel to it. It has taken some adjusting but it is minimal.

I know Mike Dechaine plays with a 314-2 on his Mezz but I don't know if he uses one with a United Joint or just the standard 5/16X14 (he won't reply to my PMs :))

I'm a predator to mezz user, I have thought about what you are saying now. Honestly the feel of the wd700 is better than the 314 2. Deflection wise, they are very close although 314 2 is less.

Keep using your mezz shaft and you will love it.

Just order one from a Mezz dealer. It may take some time because very few dealers would have it in stock. In case you cannot find one, let me know.

If you have a Mezz butt with united joint, then you MUST match it with a shaft with united joint to get that perfect snug feel. No other after market shaft will fit the united joint perfectly.

I tested this last night with my WD700 and my Schons. The '93 Schon was a bit "loose" feeling as I screwed the WD700 onto it (the '93's have the different style pin). It as a match with the collar. When I put the WD700 on the Schon SL17 I have, the shaft did "snug" down as I was threading it...but not to the same degree as on the Mezz butt. I shot some balls with the SL17/WD700 combo, and didn't like the feeling at all...it definitely wasn't the same as the Mezz/WD700 combo...

I have yet to find a good match other than the Mezz shafts on the Mezz butts...but why would you want to (that's rhetorical)...the stock Mezz shafts and the WD700 both play very very well!

Who knows, I may end up selling all my Schons now to pick up some more Mezz cues...I mean you can't just have one (okay, I have two already)!!! :D

One quick question for everyone. How would everyone compare the wd700 to the first generation predator 314 shafts (feel, deflection, etc)? Are they similar? Thanks

Why didn't you like the SL17/WD700 combo? I tried a tiger shaft on my STL11 today and did not like that combo. The shaft felt dead. Hard to make draw shots, the overall effect seemed to decrease. A different story with the Mezz/Tiger combo. Just odd.

Deflection is the same, no adjustment necessary, the feel of WD700 is way better than the predator 314. That's my opinion cause i used them both.

deflection between wd700 and 314-2 is about the same, but wd700 is thinner (12.5mm), has a different taper, and is stiffer. there is a much more solid hit with the wd700, closer to a maple shaft.

i have a 314-2 on a mezz butt, and mine is the real united joint. it's the best combo i've found for a predator, i get a lot more feel out of it on a mezz butt/uj than any other cue. i got mine from pooldawg. mezz usa also has them, and you can also buy them from japanese retailers and have them shipped here.

Sorry, for the late reply, I just caught your question...I was talking to someone about this in a PM and this is pretty much what I told him... When I played the SL17/WD700 combo, it felt like there was a "separation" between the shaft and the butt - like it was a 2-piece cue (yeah, duh - I know it's a 2-piece)...but with the Mezz/WD700 it feels like a "pure" hit on the cueball - as if there were no separation in the cue. The best way I can describe it is; It's like hitting a golf ball on the absolute "sweet spot" on a golf club - the kind of shot where you never feel the golf ball striking the club at all (if you can follow that analogy). The Mezz cues are the most solid feeling cue I've felt - like every shot is hit on the "sweet spot"...second most solid is the SL17 with a Tiger X-Ultra shaft...

Would that be the Steel jointed Tiger shaft or the phenolic? Customized to fit perctly with the Schon?

Hi.

We carry a limited line of Predator shafts for our Mezz cues but most of the time it would be a custom order.

Feel free to contact me at info@mezzusa.com for pricing and estimated delivery times.

Thanks!
