ebay and paypal a trap waiting to happen

Something to think about for a little extra added protection...

I set up a second checking account, no line of credit. I use this for my Paypal account and nothing else. I generally keep only about $100 in it at any given time. When I want to buy something (ebay), I transfer the funds into this account and pay for the item. That way, if anyone does hack into my paypal account, they aren't getting squat.

When I sell, I always put tracking and/or delivery confirmation. That usually is proof enough to settle a dispute. Not always though. :)

Just my 2 cents worth.

Great idea and this is exactly what I do.
A small savings account used for this exclusively and no link to my checking account.

I never use Ebay or Paypal. If I buy something, it is usually through an AZ member or one of the dealers who advertise here. I have had 8 or 9 buying, selling or trading transactions that have all gone perfectly, which I know is fortunate. If I buy something, I send a cashier's check. If I sell something, I have the buyer send me a cashier's check. Good communication and trust is the key. I am sure there are times when anyone will get into a deal that will go sour, but it sure seems to happen more in the institutionalized carney of Ebay.

Try this raist

Have the buyers demand the pay pal money from your pay pal then have them ship you USPS money orders. Tell them to demand the funds that they paypaled that you need thier assistance. Also demand the shipper stop shipment of your cues and have them returned. You will have the cues back and they will have the money refunded! Then maybe have someone you trust like me or Chris broker them for you at no cost I offer and so will Chris. Then we can send you the money by international shipping usps money oreder! That is what friends are for but the list of people to trust must be a short one or you will get burned every time. Your friend Nick

I Keep Crossed cue sticks!!

I have had about 200 transactions and never a problem. You do need to be careful of Spam ebay and paypal stuff but there are checks to see what is legit. Insurance and delivery confirmation is always a good Idea.

Titlistsucker I am sorry for your problem. But you did commit the cardinal Paypal no no! You turned your account over to someone you thought you could trust?:( It also would be a good idea to use an escrow service for high ticket items.

A couple of months ago I sold a Schon with two shafts on e-bay. The customer seem strange but what the heck. He paid through paypal and insisted I give him positive feedback when i received notice.
I shipped the cue and he was happy with the cue but said the one shaft was a little less than 13mm. He told me I should refund $150 so he could get a new shaft. I reply that he could send me the cue back for a full refund.

He e-mail back saying that I should refund the money first. I told him I would not do that. He contacted his credit card co. and told them the cue was a piece of crap. They contacted Paypal on a charge back. Paypal deducted the funds from my account. So I was out the cue and money.

I screamed and kicked! And told them I was being set up and wanted my cue back. They contacted the buyer and he send back a $10 USE CUE. .END OF STORY. $575 OUT THE WINDOW. I couldn't even give the guy bad feedback.

Having a small bank account linked to your PayPal bank account does not matter because PayPal will dock your PayPal account (which is backed up by your bank account and/or C.C,). They will then charge your C.C. or your bank account, if you do not have enough money in either they will rack up N.S.F. funds with your bank by submitting for payment over and over and over, which you pay your bank for, usualy $30 a pop....... if they can not collect from your bank, after 120 days they will take you to court. The little statement the you check the yes I agree box at the time you apply for a PayPal account gives them the right to deduct or freeze your bank account, or do anything they please................

Hay Raist

I can't pay it for you for at least 2 weeks but if another AZer wants a cue of yours have them pay you in 2 usps money orders one payable to your paypal and the other payable to you for the balance then send the one for the paypal to pay pal or have them settle your paypal and then ship a cue to them I think plenty of azers will be happy to do this. It will cost you one of your prize posessions but you will be unincumbered. And your account wil be released! I hope this helps and again maybe Chris can do it send he some stuff and I should be pumped up in time and will get my Scruggs titlist back if not someone else will. Always glad to help --your bud Nick
