Ebay sellers be cautious

We have in germany a lot of this mails coming from Nigeria, nearly written exactly like this one, but most of them are for expensive electric-things. This is the first time I read such a mail for a cue....

A friend who has a billiards supply store went through this once a while back. He sold the cues and got the money, but once the person who's card got scammed got wind of it, the credit card company came after him trying to get the money back. He had already taken the money out of his business account so the cc company couldn't do a charge back. He ended up coming to a reasonable conclusion with the cc company. My question is this: Why should he have had to eaten any $ since he wasn't going to get his cues returned? Just curious what other people felt about this.

Danny you dead on correct! This type of question pure B.S. Thanks for looking out for the ebay sellers who may not know about this scam.

Most people do not realize all the rules and conditions you must agree to as a retailer in order to use credit cards. Your responsibility vastly increases when you do not have the card in your hands or it will not swipe. The % off the top also increases. This is because the likelyhood of a disputed charge goes up 90 times (according to my cc company) So in a situation like a concert ticket where every person uses a phone to get tickets. They have those outrageous service charges to cover themselves for fraudulent sales. All the rules are set up to protect the customer and the credit card company second and the retailer last. My understanding is that Ebay (which owns Paypal) has seperate insurance which covers this increase fraud level which is how they can guarantee every purchase up to the limit. They still wont cover a house or car though..lol. My cc card company just upped the surcharges dramatically for purchases. We are seriously considering dropping the cards for pool playing or starting to charge a cover charge just to cover these surcharges. My last statement I was now being charged a "swipe" fee ..a "transaction'" fee and a line surcharge..whatever that is. On a $3.00 purchase I was charged $.77 plus 4% later. So if I have someone playing pool for an hour and uses a credit card I charge them $3.00..I pay the State of MO $0.28 (sales tax) I pay the credit card co $0.77 (up front)and I get a bank transfer for 96% of the balance 30 days later (net $1.87) I should have gone into the credit card business instead of the pool room business.

Scammers suck

I have had this same exact one before and it came thru my ebay questions.
I would guess it is a hyjacked account::mad: :(

Thank you for the info on your ebay pages for the cue. Please provide me with the shipping and BUY IT now information (shipping cost through postal services and estimated arrival date) and the destination Country is JAPAN
I am looking forward to present this cue for my ASIAN CUSTOMER,they're have difficultly to find this model.
In case you were interested, I found your store through E-bay and choose to buy direct rather that wait for the bid process.

Your cue description and visual presentation of your products were very enticing.
i strongly prefered paypal and-or US bank check as payment methodes, you can ship when my payment cleared

I am excited and looking forward to purchase your cue stick

it looks legitimate to me...only the fact that the buyer is probably indonesian ?
but if the buyer chose to pull the same trick by using paypal and use credit card funds for a paypal purchase he could technically still chargeback a paypal acc.

just my 2 cts.

its a scam. they'll pay you through a hacked paypal account. afterwhich the money will be frozen by paypal after they realise that the account was hacked. hopefully by then the item wouldn't have been shipped.

Always Careful!!!

oh man i didn't think of that..wow then it's a pure scam already..no way out of it if u got tricked..

That's right!! You have to be very weary. I get bogus Emails almost daily. Sometimes they are even double sent. I think it's a matter of numbers. If they send enough they are bound to catch someone. Knock on wood. Not me Yet:( :( :p

Well in a nutshell, is it safe to use paypal? I have used it several times but only for smaller amounts. What about when you get over a couple of hundred. What is the consensus here? Thanks.

I've used Paypal on almost every E-bay transaction I've ever been involved with. As little as 5 bucks...and as much as 1500. I'm a big fan of checking on feedbacks, communications during the auction, etc. Then again, I won't bid on anything I don't feel ABSOLUTELY comfortable with. If there's even an inkling of doubt, I stay away.
