I have recently started buying again on Ebay after a few year layoff. So far, it has been a total waste of time. I will say that each time the seller has credited the funds in record time, including the shipping, but it has been disappointing. It is great that the sellers have been extremely honest, but I am still out the returned shipping, and a lot of time. One guy didn't realize that I paid so quickly, never sent the item, and when I brought it to his attention I had to prove that I paid. He then refunded the money instead of sending the item. I left positive feedback because he wrote a nice apology along with the credit which I didn't notice until he told me.

We on AZB don't seem to have these problems. Cues for sale on this forum are better described, better photographed, and there seems to be a lot more pride in what we do here. Ebay seems to be a "dumping" ground for unwanted stuff, and it's just not worth it. I've been thinking about selling some cues & cases on Ebay, but if buying things has become so difficult, what would selling things be like. I was just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences as a buyer, and knows what problems arise as a seller.
 
eBay, and the class of Sellers these days ...

I just bought some 428 Cobra Jet engine parts from a listing that stated ... "Parts were New when installed and have only been run 4 months" ...

Well, I received the parts a few days ago and they have been run at least 4 years (not months) and most are beyond their life expectancy ...

The guy will not reply to any of my emails, so I will just write-it-off to experience ...
 
i have grown to hate ebay. i highly recommend the wanted for sake here. i never ran into a problem, everyone is great. i sold a $700 cue here with no problem and no fees to ebay. cant beat that.

side note: i recently had a real bad experience on ebay. i bought something, got a good price on it and it got "lost" in the mail. i got a refund but i was so put out by this guy telling me he didnt know if here lost it, mailed it, or what. at one point he sent me a tracking number that was no good. anyway..... he put me through so much trouble (it sucks when you need something, dont know if you're gonna get it, and dont know if you should just buy another one) that i left him negative feedback, my first one. then he gives me a negative feedback, but i paid immediately after the auction. and ebay wont remove it? its a total joke.
 
Well the difference between ebay and azb for cues in my opinion is..

The people selling on here take pride in cues as some are collectors and others just love cues.. For some it's a side job.. So we get better descriptions and accuracy of the cues details.. Well 85% of the time anyway.. :)

Plus the people on here know more about cues than just a joe blow listing on ebay.

That's what I think anyway.. eBay blows... The sellers are stupid.. Never list shaft sizes, Hardly ever say if the cue is straight, etc. etc...
 
Ebay was great back in the day. You could find good deals on a lot of stuff. I bought a few guitars from there and never had any problems. I sold my old video camera and again, no problem. I've never had a bad experience with E-bay but with that said, as someone else said, it's become a dumping ground for people's over priced junk. Either that or retail garbage so the person doesn't have to have a store front.

I still do a lot of auction stuff on Yahoo auction here in Japan. I just sold a guitar last night as a matter of fact and the money was put in this morning. I'm fine over here but nowadays E-bay in the States is just a looking around thing for me.

Now, as for AZB, well, so far I've only had one experience buying a cue here and it's still in transit so I can't really comment. I will say though that I foresee no problems arising from this transaction. The seller seems top rate and very easy to deal with. The cue should be here by next weekend. He sent it out yesterday. Woohooo!!

I just went through a similar thing, and you're right. It's too bad. It's starting to sound like some Ebay sellers are hoping that you forget about the item. It's odd how so many things all of a sudden get "lost in the mail". The only things I've ever send out that got "lost in the mail" happened because I tried to use an address by memory instead of actually looking it up. How typical for the guy to give you negative feedback when he was just hoping that you wouldn't notice that you never got the item. Typical bully

This could change a lot of things on Ebay, and It will help clean things up a little, but I wish that I would have known that a few days ago. The damage caused by getting a negative on Ebay is pretty big, which definitely affected they way I have interacted with a few of these guys. I mean the guy accepts a "make offer" deal, accepted my payment, and I am sure he screwed up somehow, got a higher offer, and then let it go hoping I would forget about it. When I asked when the stuff was he made me prove that I paid. Some people may not have been able to prove it, and I almost forgot about it altogether. He also tried to blame me because I paid through Ebay by hitting the "PAY NOW" button, and he claims to have sent me an invoice which I never saw. He says "next time pay attention to the invoice someone sends you", which is BS, I always pay using the "PAY NOW" button. It's quick & easy
 
str8, how did you pay for your parts? I always use paypal and my credit card. Paypal does not want to pay cc fees ,but too bad. This gives extra protection. I first contact paypal. I then contact cc. Paypal "attempts" to resolve the problem. The cc company will not pay if you file a complaint that is realistic.
Selling here on azb is easy and free. There are so many fees connected to ebay. You pay a listing fee, then a % of the sale price. Then if you use paypal you pay a fee to get the money. You cannot add these fees to the price if you are competing with other sellers. Ebay is a great way to reach many people. If you are selling billiards related item, this is the place. Not many people looking for engine parts on a pool site.

NO WAY, i just barley missed that deadline. that sucks. i got totally screwed by this guy. it was my first negative and i didnt deserve it at all. so funny i spent so much time trying to get a good deal on this item, finally got a great price, and in my opinion it was "too" good of a deal for the seller. total bs. i paid immediately and now have a negative. go figure. thanks ebay. i think IF you pay immediately the seller shouldn't be able to leave negative. if sellers cant leave negative at all seems that could cause problems too.

This is big because a lot of people, myself included, wouldn't leave a negative feedback when the seller deserved it for fear of getting a negative feedback in retaliation.

I have one negative on my ebay record which I didn't deserve. I bought a cell phone battery on ebay and I paid with Paypal. The seller didn't send the battery and wouldn't answer my emails and I waited and waited and I hesitated on leaving him a negative feedback. I finally gave up after waiting over 2 months on getting my battery and left the guy a negative feedback and within 30 minutes he gave me my only negative feedback on my ebay record. Ebay wouldn't remove it and there was nothing I could do about it that I know of. The seller is no longer a registered user on ebay and he ruined my record.

If everything is so bad on ebay, how come AZers are allways posting

And so on and so on.
When I see Palmers, Hoppes, ect on ebay, there never seems to be a shortage of bidders so I think things on ebay are fine. IMHO
 
Sleeper, ebay is still a place to get some good deals. Unfortunately, there seems to be some very unscrupulous people there also. Az seems to have a better group of people. This does not mean you can't get scammed here also. About 3 years ago I bought a really nice cue from the Phillipines on ebay. Lots of ivory. Less than $400. This cue would cost about $3000 if made here in the usa. Good deal, but I would avoid some places that seem to spawn scam artists.

Ebay has gone down hill in my book. I used to sell alot of stuff, but now they charge an arm and a leg and then you get raped by paypal. :mad:
I've only been around here(AZ) for a short time and I agree with the posters above. As long as you buy from the right person you'll get a great transaction.
 
You are going to see problems on here, as well as ebay. Hopefully a lot less problems here, but there are some. People on here put their cues on ebay after awhile because they get no bites here. In terms of popularity it is still likely that more people look on ebay then on here for cues. I hope this isn't completely true, but if you type the words pool cue in ebay's search there are currently 6,500+ listings there which include not just cues, but other pool related items. A lot more person to person communication here in the threads which is a big bonus, but I have a feeling that more people still look on ebay...at least for now.
