Ed Prewitt cues

I like Ed's cues, a natural balance. He does not use a weight bolt, if you get a solid ivory joint & ivory ferrules it will have a nice crisp hit. I like to use a solid ivory jointed cue when I play 14.1. Hit is a delicate thing around here, it's very subjective. In my opinion it's a great hitting cue.

Can you explain the difference you feel in hit between a solid Ivory joint vs Ivory sleeve?

I can chime in here because I have both types. I have a Prewitt with a solid ivory joint and it has a great combination of stiffness and feedback. I also have a Black Boar with sleeved ivory over stainless steel. it hits like a SS joint, as the ivory in that type of joint is for decorative purposes and has little effect on on the hit in my experience. If you had a flat faced wood joint with an ivory sleeve (like Mike Capone) it would hit the same as a phenolic sleeve, but might weigh slightly different. I also have a Capone with a SS sleeve, and the weight of the SS sleeve brings the balance of the cue forward, but it hits just like his other cues.

Prewitt Cues

My dad's collection includes many cues, including 10 Tads, a Gina, some Mcworters, Judd's...etc, and they are all great cues. I had the choice to play with any one that I wanted. But after playing with Dave Hemmah's and hitting them around with other EP's, I fell in love with them. The precision and quality is quite amazing. I have been offered 7k for my cue. I won't sell it for 10k. That's how much I love my EP. Everyone I let hit with my cue has loved it. As a matter of fact, my dad is considering playing with one also, after 26 yrs with a Tad. So to answer your question, the cues are expensive, but well worth it in my opinion. Oscar

I saw the one at westerncue.com that i fell in love with, its plain with a SS joint, plain birdseye but its looks sweet.

a full ivory is a very hard hit(cuz ivory is hard). it is a full piece of ivory at the joint.

a sleeved or ivory collar has wood exposed at the joint....it is like your standard flatfaced joint except for the ivory. it is therefore "softer" hitting than a full ivory, but it has better feedback because you can feel the hit through the exposed wood at the joint. it hits crisper than a standard phenolic flatface because the ivory gives you that hit,,,as opposed to a phenolic hit which is "duller" by comparision. if you've ever hit with a typical billiard cue with buckhorn collars,,,,it's like that.

this is an ivory COLLAR(sleeve) joint. as i said, much like your typical flat joint but with ivory instead of phenolic.

won't ivory collar over an ss joint make it prone to cracking? metal expands,,,and if there's one thing harder than ivory that could crack it, it would be an expanding stainless steel.
