Eddie Robin W1P and SMS

Wow, I just received my copies of Winning One Pocket and Shots, Moves, Strategies from Eddie Robin... I've only had them for a few hours, but they are amazing. I've been working through the Banking with the Beard book recently, but these books make Banking with the Beard look like a coloring book!

Eddie Robin is a wonderful person to deal with. He called me up after the sale and we talked for close to 45 minutes. He's a stand up guy. Just want to give props to a good guy. Expensive books, but well worth the cost... especially when you get personal attention from the author.

Needless to say I'm more than satisfied with the purchase.

Thanks for posting this. That's how I felt when I got mine years ago, and reading your review brought back a good memory. I spent many, many hours studying those books and working the problems. Try not to look at the "answers" too soon, work out your own solutions first. Enjoy!

Yeah the books are just unbelievable. And Eddie is a cool dude... He gave me a few calls until he got a hold of me, asked how I wanted them signed... and just chit chatted with me about pool for 45 minutes. I wish him the best luck getting more books published - the billiard industry needs more people like him.

Eddie will not publish any more books. These two were published almost 15 years ago, and nothing has happened since. Rumor is that Eddie has a few hundred copies of W1P and SMS that he is sitting on...but he has no money to publish any of the other books he wanted to do. Don't get me wrong...these are great books, and a boon to the sport. Just don't look for any more to be published. This info comes from someone "in the know" and a close friend of Eddie's.

Scott, it was my understanding from Eddie that he'd like to re-publish W1P and SMS, but that there is a legal issue with the publisher. As far as completing and publishing any of his additional topic books, you're probably right that he's limited by lack of financing.

The other problem is that pool or billiard books appeal only to a very esoteric market. I was surprised to hear from Bob Henning that if he edited and re-released Buddy Hall: Rags To Rifleman, Then What?, he'd have to sell 5000 copies to break even!!

I don't think Bob was the original publisher, so there may be rights involved there, too.

Not if Buddy Halls Rags to Rifleman keeps getting sold for 50-300 bucks for a good copy.

I know that Eddie Robin has a ton of health issues and all that, but if he really has the material for a couple new books and his previous books are going for 120-250 each, you'd think it would be possible to get them out there in this day and age.

Didn't they run tv commercials showing that anyone can get published these days? Maybe not in his original hardback, or a get rich proposition, but it shouldn't be impossible for Eddie to publish the other books he had planned for 20 years now.

If Bob does own the rights, then he should publish in pdf format. Making SOME money from the original material and making sure the public can still access it is better than letting it be lost to time.

I would DEFINITELY drop $20 on a pdf no problem if he republished in pdf format. Crap, I'd pay $30 each for a pdf copy of WOP and SMAS, just to have a digital copy... And I OWN perfect hard copies of both!!

There are a lot of companies leaving money on the table by insisting on distributing books on paper only. Security of the pdf is a real concern, however, and I can understand that.

Hey, I have an idea.. As the main market for WOP and SMAS is here in this very forum, we should put together a list of people willing to commit $30 per copy for pdf copies of the books, and once we can get it to 100-200 people, we should contact the publisher, and see if they are willing to do it. The pdf can then be put on Amazon or whatever for sale. Heck, they certainly aren't making any money just letting them sit there.

I think that is a grand idea.

Bob Henning is the sole owner of the publishing rights to BHRTR. I'm assuming he purchased them from Huckleberry Publishing Co.

I hate to say it, but I sold my pair 6 yrs. ago for the same price that I bought them--$40.00. One of the worst mistakes ever, because I really miss 'em.
