I'm not all that familiar with the pool scene in Edmonton but it's alot better here in Calgary. There are tournaments every day of the week eight ball and nine ball and there is plenty of action but it's all tough action. One of the best pool halls in Calgary is Stix Billiards. They have a great weekly nine ball with money matches afterwards going till closing. I posted the link for you:

check out the Q club, on Stony Plain Road and about 151st street, if they're still open. Shouldn't have any trouble finding a game, especially on friday nights. If snooker is more your thing, visit Centennial Billiards on 124 street and 106 ave.

hi...thanks guys....any names???.....im not pro material at all and wouldnt want to get hustledd by those great players.......

Some of the top players in Calgary:

Tyler Edey
Edwin Montal
Nick Kruger
PJ Massicote
Dave Martin
Mike Abou-daher

They won't hustle you but they can certainly take your money, if you feel like getting your ass kicked by a girl the Ashton twins play great.

I think Nick Kruger is in Penticton working at his Families restaraunt. Correct me if I'm wrong. (good god i think i may have finally fried my brain. I have lost all ability to Formulate sentences and spell werdz)

hello again....thanks guys....are there any big tournys coming up in the area that i can play in....even in BC????..where does stan torangeau play and how des he compare to these guys

Stan is a small step better. Most days he can be found at Guys & Dolls in Vancouver.

Nick

Stans on the road alot too. There are a few tourny's coming up. The only one i can think of right now is in September in Kelowna. Commadore billiards in Vancouver used to run $500 added events about every 4 - 5 months too, so you might wanna give them a call. Starting January 1st, there will be a Fury Amateur 9-ball tour across BC and Alberta. Between 8 and 12 events with a $2000 added season finale. There will be ranking points and year end prizes. Drop me an Email if you would like more info. As far as how stan compares to those guys, i would have to agree with Nick on this one, he is a small step better. Although i havent seen many matches of the players mentioned, maybe only once or twice each.

right on.....that fury tour would be great...i come from a small town and wouldnt mind testing my skills to se how far i am behind and how far i need to catch up to these guys.....i started playing snooker at 14 and when i was 16 i had a break of 89....not to bad i guess bu then noone wanted to play anymore..thats when i got hooked on nineball....my high run is 7 racks in tournament play...seven and out i think the term is....but havent had anything like that in a long time i ran 5 couple moinths ago...but alotta 2 and 3 racks thats it.......so i think that might be good enough to get a "not to bad" handicap in these bigger cities.....as for gambling..in my little town there is gambling....on fridays we play scothch doubles and play race to 3 -double on skunks for 20-40.00......i played my buddy for a thousand and came back from 6-2 race to 7....the shot on the eight i made was spectacular for a guy liek me......8 ball frozen to the middle diamond on teh long rail and the cueball along the same rail but frozen to the middle diamond...i put some shazzam on teh cue ball and made the eight straight in and drew the cueball back to almost teh same spot as the cue ball was originally to get to the nine that was along the short rail......i was suprised........but any way, i like to get beat up on by these guys to get my game a little better..hopefully goods enough where i can beat one in a tournamnet or something.........i gotta good job now....my gf thinks im making a little less than what i told her...so i have some cash to blow....shhhhhhhhhh dont tell her...lol....i play with an old lucasi cue....anyone know where i can get a shaft for it....or a better cue????????

Until he has a high finish at a major tournament I can't see him being better than Tyler or Edwin. He's definitely ahead of the other players on my list but if he's better than Tyler or Edwin he's gonna have to play them for the cash and beat them before I'll believe it.

I was about to say the same thing. I think in any tournament in the North West in which Edwin, Tyler, and Stan are in it yuo would find Stan going for less in the calcutta by a noticable amount then the other 2. If Stan gambled either in 9-ball he would get owned.

Edwin, PJ and Tyler are great players. They have allot of experience that they have got from the road. But don't forget there are some up n' coming talent from Edmonton.

There are many players that play out of the Cue Club. Young players like Mike Yancowski, he was the only one that brought Alex P. hill/hill in the big Calgary tourney a few months ago. Canadian Jr. Champ. Rob Phillips also plays out of the cue club. Garry Hauk, Yenz R., Mike Stewart, Roger Cobert, Glen Collins also shoot at the cue club.

The Metro is a nice hall downtown, rumor has it that Benny Ostachuk works there. A nice hall but not a players hangout.

If your after some action or just to shoot a few games the Cue Club would be the place to check out. They usually have Friday night tourneys and tourneys on long weekends.
The table conditions are not the best but the Cue Club has the most talent that hangs out there...

I hope you enjoy your visit to Alberta,
