On Saturday, April 18, Edwin Reyes, a prominent figure in Philippine pool, was killed inside his home in Manila.

Superintendent Gerardo Ratuita, deputy chief of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, reported that two men arrived at the home of Reyes on a motorcycle. One man entered Reyes' apartment, claiming he was there to deliver a pool cue. When he asked for Reyes to sign for the package, the alleged gunman shot Reyes twice at close range, according to Ratuita.

According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the two men escaped while neighbors rushed Reyes to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center, where he died an hour later.

Reyes, no relation to Efren Reyes, was the spokesman for the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP), an organization embroiled in a power struggle with the Billiard and Snooker Congress of the Philippines, the current governing body of pool in the country.

Police have yet to determine the motive for the killing, and there was no evidence to suggest the murder has any connection to Reyes’ role with the BMPAP.

It is, indeed, a tragic loss to the pool world.

There are several well-documented threads on Edwin Reyes. It is difficult for all of us to accept.

Personally, I believe every single one of us who care should write to the Filipino authorities, though I don't know who to address my letter to.

His death seems to be swept under the rug in the Filipino media, and somebody is getting away with his murder.

He only wanted transparency in the pool governing bodies in Philippines, and for voicing his opinion, the corrupt sons-of-b*tches had him assassinated. I'm not ready to let it go, and I haven't decided how I am going to respond quite yet. I can assure you, though, I will be writing a letter to somebody.

The law enforcement and government of Philippines needs to put a little more emphasis into Edwin Reyes' murder. Maybe threatened with a boycott of pool events happening there by overseas entities will make them move in the right direction. I cannot believe anybody would want to go to Philippines and face being murdered and/or kidnapped by militant groups.

Wow

I am saddened by his loss ,the pool community will miss him.
My sympthys go out to his family

Jam, though I follow your reasoning and feel your anger I don't think a boycott would show honor for a man who loved the game. I had never had the pleasure of meeting him only of reading of him. It is sad but he lived wanting a game played.:frown:

Upon first reflection, I felt exactly the same way as you, until I had a few days to digest what happened.

Edwin Reyes was murdered by somebody who did not like him standing up for players' rights, wanting the governing body of Filipino pool to be transparent and fair. Because of his efforts, stating his opinions in public, defending the players, ensuring everybody is getting paid what they are due, he lost his life.

This is not an isolated killing. It's a murder. Until justice is found, I won't be following events in Philippines. In fact, I will scream on the highest mountain about my opinion on this matter. Edwin's life is worth something.

Jenny,

There was a post here in another thread along the same lines as what I'm about to say. We are not sure WHAT the motive was for his execution. If we assume the obvious, we may be way wrong!

If you have followed any real crime tv, or even Law & Order you realize that many of these perps will seize an opportunity to commit a crime when fingers will clearly point in another direction.

We must be patient and wait for facts to be sorted through. Hold up on that rope please!

Be patient and wait for the facts, Ray? The man is dead. That's one fact I am having trouble swallowing.

His life was threatened numerous times in the last few months. That is a fact that he expressed in his writings before he was murdered.

I respect everyone's opinion and for sure understand your reasoning, Ray, but I ain't finished. I don't have to express my opinion on this forum anymore, as I've done it quite well. :p

I am going to express my opinion somewhere, though. I just haven't figured out where yet. :)

May I request just one thread on Edwin so we can keep it from getting buried in the pages.

Thank you.
