Well it's a damn sight closer than "Snucker" that most Americans come out with. But I don't suppose we can expect too much of from Pol players.

Most Americans don't speak with a British accent either. Nor do they take a walk up the apples and pears and they damn sure don't wrap their left-overs in alyoominium.

Oh, and they don't go to work on CHEWSDAY morning (you know, the day after Monday) either. :D

Most Americans tend to disregard the correct spelling of foreign names. When asked upon, they just say: Why bother, you know who I am talking about, eh ? Actually there was a conversation on this subject before. My point was that English language doesn't support single letter pronunciation which is used in many European and Asian languages. I really don't mind my name being twisted and bent in the mouths of foreigners.

Btw, there is a top Finnish female player whose name always gives hard time to announcers in European Championships. Her name is Pia Vähäsöyrinki. :p

Gonna practisch a lot next Satterday. Also Chewsday is a good day for practisching.

Do they? I never do that. I didn't realize it was such commonplace.

However, I have purposely been "the naive, arrogant, ethnocentric American" when I was in the presence of some pompous, jack-ass foreigner who had the attitude that all Americans were a bunch of yahoo, f*ck yeah, buckaroos simply because I knew I was pissing the person off. I know that I'm not that way, and since NONE of the people, American or otherwise, that I associate with are that way, I have to believe that those Americans are the minority and some people outside of the U.S. just have a distorted opinion of ALL Americans based on, what appears to be, the most popular American stereotype.

Have you guys ever noticed that most Europeans smell like rotten ass because they don't bathe daily? There's a stereotype for you guys from this side of the pond.

I just had to add ... Most Americans don't say "eh" after a sentence. That's our neighbors that border us to the North. :D

During an old, old broadcast on Fox Sports (world team billiards), Buddy Hall mistakenly refers to the filipino players (efren, busta, parica, luat, andam) as filapeeners.

Jimmy,

A little harsh but you are right on.

Mjantti,

America is a huge country and it is definitely a major error to try to generalize us even if you hear 1,000 people in this country doing something similar.

I think Mitch Laurence does a pretty good job, I just think he needs a better person to work with. I also think he should talk more about the players' personalities to help endear them to the TV audience. I think he might do that more if he had a real good color commentator to work with.

I like the English guy ...

I liked the English guy that commentated on the
Mosconi Cup. He got you excited whether you are
ready to be or not ... lol Wrestling would not have
anything over us if he was the commentator all the
time ...

What's that? I've been called lots of things before, but not one of those. :D

Did you ever see "Team America: World Police"? Their theme song would play every time they would go out to battle the terrorists. The chorus for their theme song was "America! F*CK YEAH!". That movie was incredibly stupid but they did a good job of making fun of just about everyone equally.

Im glad someone else is annoyed at this. I have posted this twice before and never drew a single comment that anyone but me cared. He cannot be ignorant of the fact that there is no 'm' so what explanation can there be for this insult? I just find it so unprofessional.

Just wrote a lengthy reply and then AzB was down (at least for me) and my reply was lost forever. Don't bother writing all that again. But in a nutshell, I was wrong to accuse Americans but I made some valid points on English language. I guess. We'll never know. Sorry if I offeded anyone.

Watching some espn pool I tivo'd. Can someone please tell Allen Hopkins that there is no M in Efrens name. He has been calling him Efrem for years. I cant believe no one has ever helped the guy out on this. I think Allen is one of the better a announcers on espn. Someone poke him and give him the hint.

Pat

Maybe he thinks he's related to Efrem Zimbalist, Jr? :p

Thanks for the apology. You didn't offend me I was just trying to explain how complex American culture is. Actually, when you say America, you're talking about more people than those occupying the US, you're actually talking about South America too. Combined we make up a huge ecclectic group of people. There is just no way to generalize that big and diverse group of people.
