Efren Reyes' Edwin Reyes Cue

I was watching Reyes vs Pagulayan in On Cue 3 (out now on youtube!) and one time during the match, commentator Bob Guerrero says that Efren changed his playing cue to an Edwin Reyes cue for this one particular shot because it (the shot) required lots of spin. Is this true? Maybe bandido can explain...

Efren, Edwin and I were talking cues last August at Gandy Valle's parents' house in Davao last August.
We were talking cues. Efren said nobody has ever made him a cue he liked. He's always bought or asked for a cue he liked from friends.
We talked about that ER cue. When he was in Davao, he lent the cue to his son so his son can break-in the tip. Once the tip settled and Efren can "force" the ball, he starts playing with it.
As skinny as the shaft was, he said he wanted almost no taper on that shaft.
So Edwin planned on making him an old-growth shaft for the same ER cue he has now. Efren said the butt's balance and weight is fine.

. . . . Efren said nobody has ever made him a cue he liked. He's always bought or asked for a cue he liked from friends. . . . .

That's odd, I believe Efren has several Judd Fuller cues. Years back Trudy Fuller told me by email that they were making him an ebony and ivory cue. This is the same cue you see him use alot in tournaments.

I also know he switches alot between the Judd and the Japanese Efren Reyes cue, which is longer.

You're saying he doesn't like either? Though they were made for him and he uses them a lot.

Just curious, I mean I've met him once but we've never talked about cues like you have. Just trying to make sense of what I hear second hand and what I see him use.

Anitokid,

thanks for the close up pictures. I wish they were in focus. That's the closest pics I've seen of the Judd cue. Those are exact same cues I was talking about. The Judd was made especially for him.

So my question is how can he say he never liked any cues that were made for him?

Maybe that's not what he meant exactly . . . .

You're welcome, Kano!

*My apologies for the fuzziness of the pics.
I really don't have a good camera. It's the only
equipment I need to complete my blog arsenal and all.

Efren played with Stix ( poolhall ) owner Alex's Judd to win the DCC overall title. He liked that one better. That's the one he used a masking tape when it got really cold during the DCC.
Efren's Jessie cue and Judd JT1 according to him were not made for him.

this really begs the question, how important is a good cue to a player like efren? it seems that guy can play with a broomstick and still win....(at least in his prime)

edwin's been quiet in this thread...is it a trade secret? :)
