Efren vs Bustamante part 2 in final 4 1-pocket

Reyes just pulled off a length of the table 2-rail......he may be out again! Back to the action, if the game isn't over yet!

It's over nw! 3-0 Reyes Don't think I ever saw such a quick match between two players of that caliber. Doesn't Efren stil have a "buy in" left?

24 - 5 in 21 mins. Efren just made one of the most amazing outs ever, only clank the game ball. Guess it didn't matter though ;)

24-5 in 21 mins, huh?

So who is this "Francisco Bustamante" fellow? He must be a tad better than the "Jose Parica" guy I saw yesterday, because at least Francisco finished above 0. He must be a B+ player then.

;)

am sorry, but i really think that match was decided before they played. Efren is looking at the master title, and his fellow countryman was not about to stand in his way. The way Busta missed balls, and the careless way Efren made them, tells me that they had an agreement about the outcome.

I don't blame them, totally understand the priority

Incredible match.

And yes, Reyes still has a buy-back. Joyner is on his last barrel.

Incredible. Has there been a year that Reyes played at the DCC that he didn't take the 1-pocket title?

He won in 99, then '04, '05, '06 (and soon '07). Does anyone know if he played in 2000 - 2003? I have a feeling he didn't, but I could be wrong. I can't find any info as to whether he did or not.

Well, I didn't see the match because I'm still stuck at work.

But I highly doubt that it was fixed. Efren pretty much has the master of the table in the bag already. I don't think anyone can take it away from him, unless Efren went 2 and out in the 9ball event (which probably didn't happen).

And give Busta a little more credit. If he wanted to give the game, you'd think he'd give it up in a little more than 21 minutes.

Every year Efren has entered the one pocket event he has won to my knowledge....looks like this year is going to be no different but we will see.

From the convo yesterday between Jay and Danny, Efren said he won it every time he entered this event. That implies he never participated between 2000-2003.

Man, what a finals...Joyner vs. Efren. Can't ask for anything more.

Cliff will have to catch another gear to beat Efren! He had several unforced errors against Surber. I know he plays great, but he has to beat Reyes twice!

Well, I saw the match. IMO there were some shots they would never normally do;

Busta scratched directly on a carom of the object ball on his first shot, looked very clumsy indeed

Efren blasted the balls, not showing any of the tight play he had against e.g.Parica

Bustas last shot, he left an obvious bank for Efren, who only needed one ball.

I have not looked at the details and theories for the master title, but still think that match was predetrmined.

I wouldn't go out of my way to investigate because my money is on Efren over Django anyway. But I agree it did seem awkward... Who cares Efren and Cliff will be an awesome match up. If Cliff can catch another gear and hang on he may have a better shot than Fransisco. Beating him twice seems almost impossible... What do you guys think?

If Efren stays in dead stroke, I really don't think that Cliff can get there. But, I still think it will be one hell of a match, regardless. Cliff isn't considered the greatest one pocket player in the US for no reason, and Efren will admit that as well.

Possible, but I don't think Busta would have to dump in order for Efren to win. Efren played flawlessly his first rack, going 8-and-out. He didn't blast any balls, and Busta's only mistake was the scratch. His break was great.

Besides, Efren still had a buy-back. I don't think Busta was too concerned that if he won, Efren would lose his next match and get eliminated.

I remember reading an article saying that Efren hasn't lost to the same opponent twice in a tournament since the 1980's! So even if Cliff wins the first go around, I doubt he'll win the second one. Even though Efren "moves" better than everyone, he doesn't need to "move" that much because he's been running 8 & outs and 9 & outs every time!

That isn't true anymore. Charlie Williams did it about 4 years ago and Ralf Souquet did it at the DCC to win the 9ball division a couple of years ago, IRRC. But that was 9ball. I dont think it has been done against Efren in one pocket, though, and I dont think it will happen at the DCC this year.
