Elkmaster Milk dud tips, real or just hype???

You mean Elkmaster actually makes a tip called the Milk Dud?

I thought all you could do is put an Elkmaster into a vice and squeeze it for awhile and make a pressed Elkmaster. Me and Efren, that's what we play with.

no its a process....take a standard Elkmaster, measure for thickness, soak in whole milk for a day, it will swell, then press back to original thickness, let it sit compressed for a day, then install. the milk acts as glue and cements the tip together preventing mushrooming and other deformations.

Superglue does that just fine.
and quickly and debatably better smell.

They served a purpose in a past in countries that could not put their hands on high quality tips.
I don’t see any reason to use them if you can get a good layered tip.
Just because some top Filipino players used them 30 years ago, doesn’t mean you should use them now.

Twelve dollars each at PoolDawg soaked in casein (a part of milk):

duds are great. tips are all about preference. if you like the hit, it’s a good tip.
Agreed… all about preference. Adam Franks makes a milk dud that I like. I’ve seen someone here on AzB selling his. Do a search. The soak, press and drying process is more about the hit than controlling mushrooming but yes they do mushroom less than off the shelf Elkmasters. To me they are not comparable to an off the shelf Elkmaster in any way… at least the duds made by Adam Franks.

Are they worth the effort? Better off with just a standard Elkmaster? What say you??
They are great. Get some form pooldawg8 and see for yourself. They are my favorite tip on any type of shaft.

If you've not used them and just are a fan of layered tips, there is nothing a layered tip can do that a milk dud can't. I catch flack every time I say it but there can be no de-lamination problems, glue lines, etc with duds. They are really a great tip.

If you can get them right, they will play great.like a lot tips though, it might take some adjustment, especially if your going from a layered to a solid. But Still worth seeking some out🙂

Besides the PoolDawg site selling Milk Duds at $12 a tip, so, too, does another pooldog, PoolDawg8. His are a lot cheaper at $3 each and $6 shipping. See discussion in 2019 to 2025 at https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/milk-dud-tips.503591/
