Elkmaster Tip

was just wondering who out there plays with an Elkmaster tip or what everyone thinks of them?

i replaced the Everest Tip on my Chad Carter Custom Cue the other day with an Elkmaster basically because i wanted to finally play with a soft tip. i had played with medium and medium hard tips pretty much 100% of the time, and had never played with a softer tip so i decided to try one. also had an Elkmaster put on my Cuetec SST shaft, although i dont play with it that much.

Mark Wilson told me last winter that Efren had been playing with an Elkmaster Tip, so i figured if its good enough for the Magician it should probably be good enough for DCP.

Efren plays/played with a pressed elkmaster or blue diamond tip... i read somewhere that he changed his tip to a sniper but dont know exactly. so basically its softness was turned to a medium-hard feel of the tip... most of the pinoys play with pressed elkmaster(including me) pressed elkmasters are the best, IMO. i've tried moori but never liked 'em.

when you first put on an elkmaster, it's great! perfect balence of hard and medium feel/give, but after a short while, it looses it's hard, and becomes just soft, and i don't like that.

i would say about 40% of a box 50 are good if your lucky, the rest are spongy and useless,or put them on future opponents cues, haha, but when you get a good one they are great ,you have to change more often than other tips but thats ok , 21 years playing 9ball and snooker.

I was at a tourney a few weeks ago and overheard Jeremy Jones say he uses a pressed Elkmaster. That was the first time I had ever heard of squeezing a tip in a vice before you put it on.

I hate them and could not imagine playing with one. I think some players use the Elk Master as a tip to modify and what they are playing with is something other then an out of the box tip.

I imagine they would absorb several things easily that could change the hardness and feel after curing. maybe why we hear of them being used so much, because they are very porus, and probably be a good candidate for that sort of thing. I am not a fan of them out the box either, but some people do like them anyway, and play with nothing else. To be honest I like hard tips myself, so not a expert, but have used soft tips before, and it was one of My least favorite. Maybe I need to try alittle modifying Myself and see what I can come up with. could'nt hurt.

I've been playing with the same elk master for about 5-6 months now. What i did was i glued it on first, then cut it slightly angled into the tip while i was cutting the tip flush to the ferrule. Played with it a little to kinda break it in. I then quickly dipped the tip into ammonia, took it out and wiped off the excess. Burnished the sides and let it sit to dry.

The only time i really hear about elk masters is either from the snooker player or someone asking about modifying them.

I have been playing with Elkmaster's for over a year and they have just about eliminated my mis cues. The tips I use are pressed with milk for over a week before they're worked. Don't ask because I don't know! What I do know is that it works for me. Curt

I have been using a pressed/treated Elkmaster for the last several weeks. At first I thought it was too soft, but I think it hardened up a bit after use, and now I like it very much.
