Emeralds and wizards

I can speak for the Emerald. Very similar so Tiger says to the sniper in hardness. However I don't think the tip feels that hard. It is however closer to a sniper than an Everest. Tips cuts nice during installarion and holds shape well. Outside of that it is a pretty good layered tip.

Thanks Rocket. But I meant up/down when installing them. As in which side go's down. Don

i am assuming the printed side down....i havent needed to put on a wizard tip, none of customers have asked for one. I usually use emerald, everest or sniper. So it is pretty safe to say to use the printed side down.
 
doesnt matter really. i actually glue my everests upside down bc i have that red line. so i put it in the raduis of the tip and when chalked up you never see it

Some tips have a top and bottom and if they should be put on in one direction they are marked. Most other tips have no difference between top and bottom however. Everest are one such tip. Corey told me they don't have a top or bottom and what ever makes you happy is the correct way.

the only reason for the red line there is to warn you to change to a new tip....

I agree i hve installed snipers "upside down" and they still play the same

I install Wizards printed side up. Never had a problem, they cut real nice similar to a Moori. Tiger products I install embossed side down. I always rough the backs with 100 grit and blow off the back of the tip. Some people score the backs with a razor knife and the facing of the ferule too. I do not like to do that. I do let the Locktite Precision Superglue soak into the tip for about 10 seconds before I apply the tip to the ferule. I want the penetration in the leather to get better adhesion. I actually watch it soak in. One of the things that does help with the Snipers, Emeralds, Triangles and Elkmasters is that I moisten the front of the tip with a little spit off my finger and this really helps getting a smooth cut through the longer fibers those tips have. Also, I do a blade drag by reversing my headstock rotation as opposed to try to cut back the tip with a cutting tool. Blade dragging the tip from 14mm to the tip diameter necessary keeps your cutting tool away from your ferule which your customer probably appreciates.
