I am NE KS Lawrence/KU Jayhawker, but stilll, fair is fair. If I ever made it big in the world of pool, would you all be calling me Japanese where I lived for the last 13 years, or American, where my passport is from for the other 32 years of my life?

Kevin .... But, at least, the US OPEN website, on the article about Gabe, last year's winner, said he was from Wichita, but living in Tulsa. I am sure when he moves to Florida in November, that he will be from Florida then...

I think, sometimes, that the average Pool player on the East Coast thiinks that
we have to part the wheat, and tell the Buffalo to move before we can see
the object ball to make it ... lol We don't have a lot of outside scenery like
most states do, that's why we go inside to shoot Pool. At least Gabe is helping to change that line of thought about us.

That is only the final match. The main tournament are single races to 9.

Years ago, when Gabe started being asked where he was from, maybe at tournaments, interviews, etc., he would say Tulsa, because that is where he lived. So I'm sure that is where it all started. And during the UPA tournament last January, that was televised on ESPN2, when he beat Efren, at the end of that match Gabe raised his cue and said 'Yeah, Oklahoma'! So I'm sure that's where it all stems from. He's lived in Tulsa since 17, nearly 11 years (except for brief return to Wichita to work with his dad making cues). But in the BD interview, they told he was originally from Wichita. So who knows when he goes to Florida, as Snapshot9 says. I'll ask Gabe that one! Maybe he should return to saying Wichita then. JMHO

Money is not an issue. You may never get this chance again.

Now stop whining, get off of you butt and start practicing.
Go to Orlando and play your best, win or lose.
Also, take your wife with you. This may be a once in a lifetime experience and you both should share in it.
 
I may be confused...(I am a blonde, and have been known to get confused)....but does 8 Ball Bernie get guaranteed money ($6,200) at the tournament he is talking about?

No. He's not playing in the King Of The Hill Event. He does have to go there due to a mandatory players meeting of ALL IPT players, even the ones that aren't playing in the King Of The Hill event. ;)

I would like to say good luck to you Bernie, I have been playing on the professional level for almost 13 yrs and my advice would be to not think about the competition as much as visualizing yourself in the driver's seat of a big match against one of those big name player's. I also agree with you about Allison Fisher, she is without a doubt the best female player that I have seen and does have a shot at the top ten. Keep in mind that not all of the top pro's are competing and that these events are based more on popularity than they are true playing ability. So I don't know maybe they liked your name and thought you would be a nice addition to this strange brew of politicly elected hand picked players. I promise you will be more organized than they are, I don't even know how you play but I have seen some of the player's play that they have chosen as your competition and believe when I say that you are likely to play a champion in one match and someone who will completely give up in your next match, I do not know much about this natural cure tour but even though they did not invite me I wish it success. Then possibly one day they will want to pave a foundation for every single player who deserves to be in competition and have some sort of structure, I am skeptical over whether or not this tour will survive and or whether or not it will allow any protection for the player's.
If you get a chance to play Sigel do me a favor and win, when I was a kid at a trade show I asked him if he had any insructional videos for sale and he said "not with me but if you want to I will send you one in the mail. I agreed and asked him the price which was $50.00, maybe about a year went by and I asked him about my tape and he said he did not remember our conversation and that he did'nt take my $ for any sort of tape. So I know that there is some serious larceny when it comes to who is running the show, I just figured that you might want to know.
I'm not going to go on about how well I play and that there are player's who got invited that can't make a ball in the ocean, but keep in mind that the tournament is tainted that I promise.

Danny, next year you can play in a qualifying tournament and get a tour card. Knowing your ability I'm sure you could accomplish this. Wait until it is in your own hands to prove how you can play and that you belong; don't stress over a subjectively chosen player list.

That's pretty low. I'm sure he could spare the $50 nowadays.

as far as why i feel manalo is the greatest player on earth now, he is "there" now he's "arrived" here we have a man, who focused all his efforts on snooker, and won many, many tournaments at that. then he switched to 9-ball, and came in very strong at the 2004 and 2005 world championships, something like 3rd, and 4th. place, then he comes to america in 2005 for the first time, and not only wins every tournament he entered, but goes through UNdefeated, as if there were no opponents!!!!!!, then he faces the great danny barouty in straight pool, and drills him clean 150-42!!!!!!!!, and marlon manalo, never played straight pool before!!!!! so, he is a man with a clear thinking head, he is on a mission, he has snooker fundamentals, and is smart, and his sleeves are rolled up, sort of speak. he adopts to EVERY cue sport quickly, and 8-ball should be a breeze to him. and most of all, he has "fire in the belly" he is very "in to it", very dedicated, extremly focused, so i believe he is the greatest in the world right now, with that said, i feel thorston hoemann, is the second greatest, simply because his position is spotless!

Thanks for answering my question on manalo. That's saying a lot about him. But there's talk amongst the forums that he won't participate in the King of the Hill because he'll be representing the Philippines in the South East Asian (SEA) Games. Too bad. However, it's been said that Efren and Django are ditching SEA to play King of the Hill.

To pay for your travel and hotel you should try and get the last two from marlon and bet it BIG! you will get him scared with your big bet and may pull it off!!

Thanks Timberley, that is what I thought, but wasn't sure. Still learning about these different tournies! AZB is the place to learn!
