Thank you for the vidsDust collection is where it's at. Both of my CNC machines I built I started with dust collection and worked my way back.
Here is what I have done to try and keep those nasty fines out of the air.
My machine was modeled after JCs tapering setup. The reason the vertical mount appeals to me is it saves floor space and the chips fall down due to gravitySecond what icbm said - Thanks for the vids!! Most informative.........and generated a question or 2:
pip9ball: Do you see an advantage in your vertical tapering machine over a similar setup horizontally?
JC: On your CNC Saw Machine, do you use it for both butts and shafts? May I inquire what rpms you set for the material as it travels over the saw blade? Linear speed of material?
Again - Thanks for the vids! So much to learn, So little time!!

I need that saw machine for roughing . 1" square to round then first taper . Heck, I'll take 3 passes.Dust collection is where it's at. Both of my CNC machines I built I started with dust collection and worked my way back.

Makes perfect sense - can't fight gravity!!My machine was modeled after JCs tapering setup. The reason the vertical mount appeals to me is it saves floor space and the chips fall down due to gravity

I used my saw machine for everything until I built my wall machine. It actually does a fine job of it . The square points on the headstock can cause some centering issues if you don't get a good imprint the first time you push the wood in. I spin most stock about 150-180 RPMs and feed it 5-10 inches per minute depending on what I'm doing and how dense the wood is.Second what icbm said - Thanks for the vids!! When I started wanting to do certain things I found very little information available online so when I figured out a way of doing things that I liked and seemed to work I decided to make some videos. There are likely better smarter ways of doing a lot of what I'm up to but no one is sharing it in easy to understand format like a video that I could find at least. If I leave behind a few cues and few ideas on this earth when it's my time to go that's good enough for me.JC: Thanks! Your input and willingness to share greatly appreciated!!
I also thank you for the shared videos. I'm one of your subscribers and your piece about coring demystified a ton for me.When I started wanting to do certain things I found very little information available online so when I figured out a way of doing things that I liked and seemed to work I decided to make some videos.
